Anyone have an idea how much one would be able to leg press if they squat 405?
The force applied to lift 405lbs straight up be able to lift around a 575lbs up a 45 degree (frictionless!) slope. But I'd expect you could leg press a shitload more than that. Extrapolating from my own unmentionably pathetic squat and leg press poundage, I'd wager you'd be able to push around 700-750.
well, if you leg press to the same depth theoretically, work done is Force x Distance x cos theta
Force is 9.81 x weight in kg
Cos theta for squat (cos 0) is 1, and for leg press (cos 45) is 0.707
distance is constant between the two equations if you do them to the same depth, so it can be cancelled out
your capacity for work should be the same, so including the weight of the sled for the leg press
(9.81 x Squat) = (9.81 x Leg press) x 0.707
9.81 x Squat/9.81 x 0.707 = Leg press
Squat/0.707 = Leg press
183.6kg/0.707 = 259.7kg
572.8lb
But no one does leg press to full depth.

I did 6 plates on each side which is 540 lbs, for 3 sets of 10. Considering you are somewhat stronger than me, 500 should be a piece of cake. For shits and giggles, ask him to climb on top of the machine while you press him and his 500 lbs.
The weird thing about leg presses is that it uses some weird glute muscle, I can't say which one but I felt it the next day like I had never felt with either squats of deads.
