Watching a guy today squat beside me and came to the realization why this thread is needed. The more weight he added the less his ROM until at 120kg he 'knocked out' 8 reps that seen his butt drop less than what it would if he unclenched it. He then peacocked a little before strutting past me smirking while I was about to start mhy final set of full ROM at 105kg...gaahhh - need to vent! lol
True, it may appeal to each one's pride & vanity ... but don't we all have a point where it is too much?
Kind of like this thread. I'm sure most of us see what we think is bad form and weird exercises but some days it gets to be too much and you have to vent.
Gay chicken is a dangerous game.
Observed one PT teach another PT how to squat. Where do I begin, depth, form, bar position, maxi pad, hand position, head position. It was an all around fail.
What's worse is she will teach her client the same.
Also why spot some one in a power rack when the safeties are in position. If they can't pull it off then just let them drop the bar.
Dude was practicing his MMA skills on the heavy bag. Saddest thing ever. It was a bitch of a fight, but I had to give it to the bag on points. The bag wasn't much of a striker, but it managed to score a takedown every time the dude tried a reverse roundhouse. Seriously, if your badass finishing move is throwing the worlds slowest heel kick and then falling on your ass you might want to reappraise your fighting style.
I've played gay chicken! What a game. You can cock block your maes left right and center and it usually results in you winning.
Couple of guys on the rack next to mine today were doing deadlifts that never touched the ground. They followed it up with some quarter squats. Then one guy throws on a weighted vest and does some more quarter squats. They decide they're done and leave the plates on the bar.
Would it surprise you to know that they're both personal trainers at the gym?
Regarding the squatting potential, without drugs 2xBW is tough. Hbriem (I think) mentioned a study where someone went looking for a drug-free, unequipped lifter lifting 2xBW, and couldn't find one. Of course, this is evidence that the beast is rare, rather than entirely mythical.
But it does mean 4 plates for a sub-200lb male is going to a stretch without weight gain. For an older lifter without the bodyweight, and years of ineffective programs, there's a ceiling to expectations, totally aside from the fact that time is steadily reducing your potential max. I think it's a mindset we can imagine constructing over time.
Doesn't mean it's right, of course. How do you explain all the logs that get to 400lb around here (and there are loads....)?
