What is the best place to buy plates? There are no good deals to be found on craiglist or facebook and most places online charge a hefty shipping cost, except for Amazon. I live in the Dallas area and was wondering if anyone knew how to get the best bang your buck to stock a home gym?

Dick's usually has a 300lb barbell set for $199 and 45lb plates for about $45, if memory serves. I think Walmart prices are about the same.

Thanks man, I'm not sure why I didn't think about Walmart or Dick's, trying to save money for a good bar and rack.

You're not going to find a good bar at Walmart or Dick's.

Going to order a bar from Capps, and make the drive from Waxahachie to Irving, what would be benefits of the SS bar be over the standard Texas Power bar?

Craigslist in Dallas often has good deals you just have to check every morning

Same with east texas and Houston

Most people prefer the knurl of the SS Bar.

The standard Capps bar knurling can be aggressive compared to their SS bar.

For plates in Dallas, there are a bunch of second-hand gym equipment stores (Busy Body. Fitness Headquarters). The tough find is going to be standard size 45's.

If you know any of the high school athletic directors, you could talk to them. Or just cold call them. The bigger schools around Dallas seem to replace their stuff often enough that you may be able to pick up plates pretty cheap or even free.

Thanks! With the shipping money I’ll save, may as well get the SS bar.

Pete really appreciate all the options on the weights, now at least I have some options to look into.

Starting Strength also saved me from getting useless 35 pound plates.

The photo shows some york 45s

I would grab those, they are good plates sandblast and paint and you have some quality plates
