OK, 1 year in to the "pandemic" everyone is still sold out of everything.

I just want a set of iron plates, nothing fancy, everything is still back-ordered

Is this a Supply issue or a Demand issue? Or both?

Is this madness ever going to end?

As long as it's useful to control everybody, it will continue. And it is impossible to communicate the severity of the supply chain disruption in economies all over the world. Construction materials are a very volatile market, with prices and availability changing daily.

Governments don’t like what they refer to as ‘price gouging’. The result is that manufacturers of finished goods don’t want to increase their prices and they often won’t take shipment of the higher priced raw materials in order to fulfil orders. This leads to empty shelves. At present there is a problem with scarcity of containers and shipping costs have doubled. It all adds up.

I was able to get a rack, bench, 3 bars and 800 lbs between steel and bumpers without a whole lot of effort since mostly from Rogue, Fringe and Strength Co.

There is not much in the second-hand market but these company have kept their prices stable for the most part and had relatively minor wait times.

How much of a priority is is for you to train?

If you haven't seen it (in a thread below this one) I made a website that may be able to help you find in-stock equipment: Ironscanner Scraper - Home

Good luck out there. I have a friend who wants to open a gym, and is waiting for what he believes will be a glut of gym equipment on the market at cheap prices as gyms re-open and people sell their home gym equipment. I gave him my doomer perspective that the scarcity will not alleviate and gyms as we know them will be a thing of the past as we enter into an era of periodic rolling lockdowns, and the gym business model becomes much less profitable and much more uncertain. He remains hopeful, though.

It’s almost kind of fun now checking to see if anything is in stock. Then see if you can order it before it’s sold.
I was able to get a set of 45 bumpers awhile back.
I think you can buy them from Strength CO. And get some smaller plates from micro gainz.
