I’m thinking about posting something like this on Facebook... something I rarely do anymore.

    Low Bar vs High Bar
Why do so called liberals always adopt the weakest slogans? I’ll start with the worst, “Coexist”, frequently seen on bumper stickers. Yes, let’s have a call for us all to coexist, because missing that bar by an iota means one or more of us is getting annihilated!
Slightly better is “tolerance”. There seems to be a little more wiggle room there. It doesn’t seem very active though. In fact, there were billions people tolerated perfectly well by me today already, without even getting out of bed. Oh well, I’ve poured a cup of ethical coffee, and I’m busy with more tolerating. I’m surprised I get anything else done!
Today, the slogan is “woke”, which is grammatically problematic for me if you are asking for some response in the present, but that’s beside the point. I assume the idea is to remain aware of the things going on around us and not fall asleep while evil has its way. If my interpretation is correct, this is the best of the three and reminds me of a call in Christian scripture to remain awake; but it seems, by the way certain (especially white) people act, what it really means is to moralize profusely to others in order to feel good about themselves; or worse than that, egging aggrieved people in economically deprived areas to “burn it down” while returning to the comforts of their own, safe neighborhoods.
Maybe language matters, maybe we should try harder.
Instead, why not study the Judeo-Christian concept of grace? Now there is an active word worth forming a movement around. According to the New Dictionary of Theology it means acts and gifts "generous, free and totally unexpected and undeserved". Receiving grace starts out as passive, but Christ followers know that grace is a force that finds its way forward, replicating through the acts of the people who have gratefully received it. Think of “paying it forward” or a vessel overflowing.
Well, for me, writing this has been an exhausting bit of blathering on. If I ruined your favorite slogan for you, maybe it’s good! Move forward with gratitude. Remain awake to evil, but fight it with good. And, by all means, don’t be annihilating each other out there!

It seems like the wrap up about grace could use a little more substance.

Maybe I’ll end it with a quote by C.S. Lewis. I was looking for something more “on the nose” but I sort of like this one:

“As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on thing and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down you cannot see something that is above you.”

I got an itch to see if 365 was still in the tank, and it was! Nice and smooth with a satisfying thud when I set it down.

So, we survived the ‘rona being in our house, 2 sick (a single mom we help out and her boyfriend since he couldn’t quarantine at his place).
We got the JJ/J shot right about the time they were getting better, about 4 weeks ago. I thought you could catch this thing if you looked at someone funny.
