I woke up to three fresh inches of snow this morning. I'm really tired of it.

    Monday, April 18 - Recovery

    Squat 45x5x2, 95x5, 155x3, 230x5x2
    Bench 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 185x5x2

    Wed April 20, Intensity

    Press 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 155x2, 185x1, 205x2x2, b/o 175x5
    Deads 95x5, 135x5, 225x3, 275x3, 315x5

Doing deads after intensity day pressing is a recipe for slow progress. Tonight's 5x felt more solid than normal, so that's a good sign.

Pressing continues to go well. This was the first time for multiples over 200 - kinda cool.

Oh, to continue my sniveling about the weather, yesterday may have been the most craptastic day ever. We had high winds/rain/sleet/hail/snow/lightning all day with a temp of 34F. Mid state and northwards had at least 5 inches of snow. The only thing missing were locusts.

Today is my "Monday" for TM but the gym is closed for the Easter weekend. It blows but the gym is at the HS which controls the holiday calendar. I don't pay a nickel so that's that. I'll do a mash up on Monday, my next training day. I think I'll do Volume Day weights but Recovery Day volumes. So, with the extra day off I should recover by my late in the week Intensity Day. I'm shooting for a new 1RM bench on Wednesday. Actually, it'll be a new 1RM for the current era; I'm not comparing against what I did in the days of my ute. Not yet, anyway.

Nice job on the over 200's presses! Good luck hitting that max bench!

Thanks, Callador. I really like how alternating bench and press days has launched the gains for both. I'll be shooting for 295 or 300 for a single on Wed or Thurs. I'm going to hold off on a PR attempt for the press until June. I should be ready for 240 by then. -Bob

Monday, April 25 - Recovery with a bit of Volume

    Squat 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x5, 185x3, 245x1, 280x3x2
    Bench 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 185x3, 225x1, 232.5x5x2

The gym was closed last weekend so this is Vol and Recov combined, I worked up to my planned Volume weights that were scheduled for last Saturday but dropped the sets back to two each. This should leave enough in the tank to still get after it on Wednesday, my Intensity day.

    Wed April 27, Intensity

    Bench 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x5, 205x3, all paused - 245x1x2, 225x3, (my spotter was busy with a client) 295x1, b/o 225x8

    Deads 95x5, 135x5, 225x3, 275x3, 325x3

The bench single is a mark I haven't reached in about twelve years. It was fairly easy and I had at least another five pounds in the tank for that rep.

Deads after heavy pressing are just a bear but they're coming along.

    starting strength coach development program
    Saturday April 30 - Volume

    Squat 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 205x3, 245x1, 280x5x3
    Press 45x5, 95x3, 135x1, 170x5x3

As squats get heavier, doing the pressing lifts after the squats will force micro loading of the presses pretty soon. I'm doing 2.5 lbs per week increases for the 5x sets and probably only have a couple more weeks at this pace unless I back off the squat increases, which I don't want to do yet.

While my squats aren't much to write home about (yet) they are starting to be consistent in form and tempo. Today's third set was pretty comfortable. I need to get some video to check depth. They feel OK but you know how reliable that is.
