    Monday April 9 - Intensity

    Press 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 155x2, 185x1x2, 205x1, 225x2,3,F 165x8.

Tonight was odd. Warm ups were quick and easy but the top sets were a mess. I planned to do 225x3x2 but loosened up and got out of the groove on the 3rd rep first set. The second set was fine. Because of the fouled first set I unracked a third set but it started to grind right away and I almost lost it to the back. FUBAR. I racked it and did a back off and called it a night. My routine has been off, I missed another split day for Volume squat last Thursday and the gym was closed for three days over the weekend so I didn't get my normal Recovery lift on Saturday. I've mentioned it before, the Recovery lifts are way more important than they look at face value.

I also had a second lunch today around 4:30 and it wasn't setting well at the gym. I never eat before lifting. This is why.

Oh, Lovely has beef short ribs braising in red wine on the stove. The house smells all French and awesome.

Yep, we all have days like that, Bob. Nothing goes right.

A few weeks ago my lifting partner was benching and NOTHING was feeling or looking right. Even so, he worked up to 335x8 and that looked really good. So up to 385x2, and they were so ugly with both out of the groove he was going to quit. I talked him into trying a new PR and that is when he hit a beautiful in the groove 420 that was as easy and slick as you ever saw.

Weird things happen in the weight room when least expected.

    Wednesday April 11- Volume (split)

    Bench 45x5x2, 95x5, 155x5, 205x3, 245x3, 265x1, 275x1, 285x5x3, cool down 225x6

As gummed up as Monday was tonight was the opposite. The work sets were absolutely greased. I usually strip the bar after the work sets but I did a little cool down 'cause everything was in such a groove.

Our neighbor's son, who is like a brother to my girls, headed to Texas today to start USAF pararescue (PJ) training. It's a tough program to get into and a tough one to pass. He's wired right and will do just fine.

    Thanks, men.

Tad, the braised short ribs were great on Monday but really, really good on Tuesday for lunch. Like stews and soups it gained a bunch of, um, character overnight.

Thursday April 12 - Volume (split)

    Squat 45x5x2, 95x5, 155x5, 225x3, 265x2, 285x1, 305x3x5

This was one of my best squat nights ever. It was crisp and solid.

Eats: J. cooked the rice and cut the veggies for stir fry while I was at the gym. I got home, marinaded the chicken and turned the beast (wok) to blast furnace and commenced to flail that grub around. It was quite good if I say so my own self.
