Tuesday May 29 - Recovery
Squat 45x5x2, 95x5, 155x5, 225x3, 250x5x2
Press 45x5, 95x5, 135x3, 160x5x2
Quick and done. The gym was closed for three days so I missed the normal Recovery and Intensity lifts. So, tonight I just took the first workout that was missed in sequence and did it tonight. It felt great. I'll go Intensity on Thursday and back on schedule to Recovery again on its normal day, Saturday. Volume gets short changed, dang.
Which is as it should be.
My father served in Vietnam. He didn't lose life or limb. But he did lose something, and he has never really recovered. He is, afaic, disabled. I always reflect on this at length on Memorial Day, among other things. It is right and proper for a society to honor its warriors.
Thursday May 31 - Intensity
Bench 45x5x2, 95x5, 155x5, 205x3, 255x3, 285x1x2, 305x1 (greased), 335xF, 330xF, 315x1x3, b/o 245x8
I wasn't planning on trying a new 1RM but the 305 warm up was so smooth... Well, the reason I wasn't planning the new 1RM is because I'm not ready - yet. It was fun to try, though.
When you feel like things are right for a PR attempt, thats the time! Too bad you didn't get it, maybe the next time. The only thing I would have done differently was not to try the 330 after missing 335. 99 out of 100 times you won't get it and what you do get is doubt.
You're right, O, the warm up felt right so why not give it a go? The 330 attempt about 45 seconds after the fail was just wrestling with the bar but it was fun trying to show it who's in charge. There are no doubts that 335 is coming soon it just wasn't happening last Tuesday.
Saturday June 2 - Recovery
Squat 45x5x2, 95x5, 155x5, 225x3, 250x5x2
Bench 45x5, 95x5, 155x5, 225x1, 235x5x2
All sets were crisp and snappy, the sun is shining and today is the first farmer's market in the village in probably 50 years. Life is good.
It turned out great, indeed. Thanks.
Monday June 4 - Intensity
Press 45x5x2, 95x5, 135x3, 155x3, 185x1x2, 215x3x3, b/o 165x10
Yesterday was kind of the lost Volume day from last week. I shoveled three yards of mulch from my driveway and into the truck, took it to the in-laws' house across the way and carted it all over the yard to take care of the planters of there. You see, my wife ordered some mulch from the village. It's cheap but there's a $50 delivery charge. "So," says herself, "we might as well justify the delivery fee" and ordered six yards. Now she knows how much six yards of mulch is.
