    Volume day 7/9/11

    Squat 280 lbs 5x5.
    Bench 185 lbs 5x5
    Deadlift 380 1x2.

Comment on deadlift: I failed the deadlift today as I felt my back tired, and unable to do a third rep with decent form. I had also failed last week (380 x 4) - that failure was due to grip strength on the 5th rep. After that Friday we went on a vacation to
Disneyland/Seaworld and walked probably 10-15 miles. My recovery appeared to be affected. I will probably do my first deload on the deadlift.

Comment on Squat: trained at a particular branch of a globo gym that I don't normally go to. I realized that all the bars there are bent to hell; I remembered that a team of Cross Fit folks were cleaning with iron plates and dropping them to the ground directly from their shoulders. While using one of these bent bars for squats at 280lbs, all the plates started sliding on the bar which was as straight as it could be on my back. The 45-lb plates bounced on the floor and almost killed the person next to me. After that set I used collars which I have never used for any weight at the other gym (where the bars are not bent). Other than that, the squats were great!

    Intensity day 7/12/11

    Squat 325lbs 2 x 3
    Bench Press 205 1 x 3
    Power Cleans 167.5 5 x 3

Comment on Power Cleans: form on these deteriorated compared to 165lbs previous. May repeat this weight to correct the form before proceeding higher.

    Volume day 7/18/11

    Squat 285lbs 5 x 5
    Overhead Press 141.2 5 sets, with 5, 5, 5, 4, 3 reps
    Deadlift: 350lbs 1 x 5
    Power Cleans singles 135, 155, 165, 167.5, 170, 172.5, 175, 177.5

Comment on Overhead press: These were difficult; I was fatigued by the squats, even though I took a rest between exercises. May need separate training session to do my best.

Comment on Power Cleans: I used the form described by Greg Everett with a vertical torso. http://www.cathletics.com/articles/a...p?articleID=49

The result was that I could clean 12.5lbs more than before, with an easier catch and less effort.

    Intensity day 8/11/11

    Squat 340lbs 1 x 3, 1 x 2
    Bench Press 207.5 1 x 3
    Deadlift: 382.5lbs 1 x 3

Comment on Squat: I have been getting cut by these sharply knurled bars. used a bar with almost no knurling, and it was shifting around; chalking the back of my shirt helped.

Comment on Deadlift: I'm doing these now on Intensity day, as recommended in the Lascek Texas Method e-book.

The next Volume day is scheduled for 8/14/11, but that day I will be attending the Pendlay certification for the olympic lifts. TBD.
