How do you feel after the meet? More in need of rest than usual?

Short version: Tired, in need of food. Not so much rest, as "light" weights.

This may be just me, but most everyone in our gym feels the same way.

On the other hand, when I was at Natl's, I shared an elevator with some women who were competing Masters lifters. These women had been at an International competition, in Sweden I believe, just the weekend prior to Natl's. They competed and won their flights in Orlando!?!

I have no idea how they did this. Flying to and from Europe, competing and then doing it again a week later - amazing.

All I'd say is, a meet can be a long day, well outside of anything you'll do in a gym on a daily basis. You'll have pushed yourself further than you ever have. Your food and drink regimen will be compromised, as will your sleep. Expect the aftermath to be "interesting"...

Unbelievable. I would be babying myself, especially after a long flight like that.

I'll be staying in a hotel the night before the meet. Fortunately the weigh-in is late, 12 noon. So I should have time to eat and relax a bit in the morning, and prepare some snacks for the afternoon.

Good that you're getting in the night before.

Hope you don't have to cut to make weight.

If the weight is under control, have a pancake breakfast !

    In your day bag:

    Two bottles of Pedialyte
    Bottled water 6 pack
Your favorite energy drink enough for two servings
    Bananas
    Clementines
    PopTarts / Donuts / PB&J

Better to have too much food and drink and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I thought I would make the 205/93kg class but I don't think it's in the cards. I'm about 207 right now first thing in the morning, empty stomach, and with a late weigh-in after breakfast... I don't feel like trying to cut--I'm fairly lean at this weight--so I think I'll be competing in the 105kg group. It might be easier to put on a couple of pounds.

    Umm poptarts....

I'm already looking forward to a post-meet meal at our favorite pizza joint in Albuquerque.

Yeah don't cut. If, down the road, you find you're competetive at the top levels, and dropping down a class make you more competetive - go for it.

But for the first couple of contests, let your weight do what it wants.

How tall are you, Yoda? I know on screen you look about 24", but perhaps in person a bit taller?

That seems to make the most sense. It will be interesting to see how many other 60-year-olds show up.

It's amazing what the camera can do. In real life I'm somewhere between 6'0 and 6'1 though otherwise I look pretty much the way I do in the movies.
