    3/17/18

    Week Three reps/ sets

    HB Squat - 210lbs 8*3
    Bench - 150lbs 10*4
    Deadlift - 315lbs 8*3

    LTE/Curls - 85lbs 10*3
    Mid Row - 160 10*3
    Pull Downs - 170 10*3

    Press - 95lbs 10*3

Nice work for a Saturday session...especially like the Presses at the end, little to no struggle with the 9-10 reps.

    3/19/18

    Week Four reps/sets

    HB Squat - 115kg*10, *4, 102.5kg 10*3, *5
    Belt Squat - 80kg 8*5
    BSS - 16kg 8*4

    Back Ext - 25kg 10*4
    Wide Grip Pulldowns - 190 10*4
    Mid Rows - 170 10*4

End of the cycle for Squats. Nice to hit a beltless rep PR in the fourth week. I haven't done that in awhile. Got crushed on the second set though, the legs were shot, even with 10 minutes rest. That fatigue carried through to the backoff work, as I could only get five reps on the last set.

    Onto the Bench...

That must have been a brutal workout, BD. Sets of five will seem easy.

    3/21/18

    Week Four reps/sets

    Bench - 75kg 10*2, 70kg 10*2, 67.5kg 10*2
    Wide Grip Bench - 60kg 8*3
    Incline Bench - 60kg 8*3

    Pull Ups - +12kg 7*3
    Tricep Pulldowns - 20kg 10*3

Had to abbreviate the session to go help the bride with some urgent issues, got the heavy work in though.

That's a rep PR by 5kg, additionally for an extra set as well...incremental progress.

    3/22/18

    Week Four reps/sets

    Deadlift - 182.5kg *8, 155kg 8*3

    Bench - 65kg 10*3
    GHR - 8*3
    Back Ext - 25kg 8*3
    Hammer Curls - 35lbs 20*4
    Sit Ups - 5kg 20*3

    Notice anything interesting...

Perhaps a top set, beltless at 182.5kg for eight reps?

It has been an outstanding cycle and I figured that coach would call for 172.5 / 175 for the top set(s). No, he gave me the option of one set at 182.5, or two sets at 175.

Now I've never repped 182.5 belted for any more than six. So when he called out 182.5 beltless, I was a little scared. In fact, I was so concerned, I didn't video it. Fragile psyche and all that stuff.

Damn if the bar didn't just fly up. Kept everything tight and tidy throughout the set. Coach yelled for me to go to 10 reps. I declined, discretion being the better part of valor.

I'm pretty spent, but extremely excited. That's the first time I've repped enough weight to break into the Est 1RM range of 500lbs...231.5kg using the Walthan formula.

    That's a PR by 12.5kg. I'm gobsmacked.

I'm thrilled that my coach believes in me enough to push me, and trust me to rise to the challenge.

Words are inadequate at this moment, but I wanted to share this with y'all.

Holy mackerel, as my parents used to say. That's fantastic! Who would have thought that lifting stuff could be so satisfying? You'll be smokin' by Nationals time!

    Week Four reps/sets

    HB Squat - 215lbs 8*3
    Bench - 155lbs 10*4
    Deadlift - 315lbs 2*3

    Straight Bar Curl - 30*3
    Dips - 75% of bw 20*3
    Goblet Squat - 50lbs 10*3
    Triceps Pulldowns - 25kg 15*3

    Where to begin...

I thought I might keep things in their own compartment, but 'twas not to be.

My best friend passed away, suddenly, on the Ides of March (15 being his favorite number). His service was held yesterday and I'm gutted. I've lifted some heavy shit, but nothing like this heavy heart. It's the toughest lift of my life...

I've used the gym as a refuge in this storm, and I've had a hell of a week. But it caught up with me today. Squats were a struggle. I have a knife in my back, which made the Bench excruciating. And the Deads were just that.

Thought I could muscle through this...it's so hard.
