I hate chins for that reason. I put them off to the end when I'm already tired and don't have time left to rest between sets. I forget to do them on the off days.

    Default Its Arm Day, Bro!

Today is a great day to be alive.

    Push Presses: 135x5, 175x3, 195x2, 210x1x10 (10 singles)
    Savickas Press: 140x5x5
    Curls: 75x5, 95x3, 115x2, 135x2,2,2,2,1, 115x5,5,4
Wrist Roller: 24kg KB: 8 X Forward (rolled away from me), 8 X Backwards (rolled towards me)

I made a wrist roller for my power rack out of a piece of 1.5" diameter section of PVC. I put it over the safety bar at shoulder level. The weight is held by a nylon strap I found and tightly tied / hose-clamped to the PVC. It is a real burner for the forearms. Just a bit of fun. Last time I did these I got 7X each direction.

I wanted to comment about how awesome my wife is. She times dinner so that as soon as I'm done training, I come in the house, and dinner is ready. Tonight was stuffed peppers with some leftover homemade macaroni & cheese (with stewed tomatoes!), followed up by homemade applesauce cupcakes. She is very supportive of my obsession, and even watches silly things like strongman competitions online. (She refers to Zydrunas Savickas as "the guy who makes the angry tomato face" when he squats). Progress is so much easier when there is excellent support like this. We eat homemade food together almost every night, a staple of a strong family. Oh yeah - and she is 31 weeks preggers, too. She is the best.

    Default A late afternoon quickie.

    Squatting session that is!

    Squat: 135x5, 245x3, 335x2, 385x1, 425x1, 460x1x10 (10 singles)

I didn't have time to do anything else today. At least I got to do some heavy squats, the finest of all exercises.

Today was another abbreviated session due to time constraints.

    Press: 135x5,3, 155x2, 190x1x10 (10 singles)
    DB Press: 35x5, 70x4,4,4,4,4
    KB Press, 24kg: 10

Today was also the first time I was able to rip an entire deck of cards (between press singles). I was then able to repeat it (because one test is no test). They aren't Bicycle brand, or the plastic-coated ones, but the dollar store type. Another feat of strength to do at parties!

Default Just a little something on a Friday afternoon

I picked up my brother from the airport yesterday, and it being the Philadelphia airport, his flight was delayed. While I waited, I went to the gym at work. The question then became - what could I do in a pair of jeans & a collared shirt?

Chins - tested max weighted double, single
    BW: 2,2; doubles at +10, +20, +30, +40, +50, +60; +70x1; BW 6

    Rectangular Fix: 45x5, 75x3, 95x1, 105x1, 125xF

I'm pretty sure those are some new PRs on weighted chins. Back to my normally scheduled programming.

Default Squats & Pulls - a glorious way to spend a Saturday morning.

My brother is in town, and joined me for today's training session. I haven't seen him in 8 months, so that was a good time to hang around between sets.

24kg KB swings: 20 (for warmup, just to get a bit of blood flowing)
    Front Squats: 135x5, 185x3, 225x2, 275x1, 295x5, 235x10,7,6 (PR - new 5RM)
    Deadlifts: 225x5, 315x5, 365x3, 405x2, 455x1, 480x1x10 (10 singles)

There were also some miscellaneous deadlifts at 185 through 225 to demonstrate technique.

Those singles were difficult, but one by one, I got them done. How am I going to pull in the 600s if I don't put the time in at 480? There is nothing quite as good as standing up with a heavy deadlift in your hands.

Default Just moving the Earth, one rep at a time.

My brother is still in town, so he joined me for another session today. He wanted to bench press, and we made it so.

    Push Press: 135x5, 175x3, 190x2, 200x5, 160x10,6,6
    Bench Press: 160x5, 185x3, 235x3, 265x3, 285x3,3,2,2,1
    Curls: 135x1, 145x1, 155x1, 120x5,5,4, 100x8,7,8 (PR - NEW 1RM)

For not benching in a month & a previous 3RM of 290, I am pretty proud of today's session. I started curling without a warmup & 135 flew up. There was some back-bend at 155, but no hip motion.

If the rain stops, we're headed to the Phillies game tonight (vs. the Nats). Another Dollar Dog night. Oh yeah. In the meantime, I'll fuel up on some beef, hot sauce, & black coffee.

Default Lunchtime squats make the rest of the day better.

I planned to do a session of squats & RDLs today, and really hit it hard. I got a call just before I went to the gym that I had to be back early for the fume hood inspection in my lab. Just squats & chins today.

    Squats: 135x5, 225x3, 315x2, 365x1, 405x1, 435x5, 350x7,7,7 (PR - NEW 5RM)
    Chins: 5,5

That is the risk of the mid-day workout. Occasionally stuff comes up that has to be done. At least I able to get my squats done. Oh yeah!
