Default Today is an excellent day to train.

I was able to get another lunchtime session in at work today.

Split jumps (per SSC Nick Delgadillo): 10
    Power Cleans (w split): bar x 10, (140x3)x8
    Squats: 135x5, 225x3, 315x1, 355x1, 375x5, 315x5,5,5 (PR - 5RM for belt only)
    COC: #1 - 5 singles. #1.5 - 11 singles (each hand, between sets).

Everyone was at the gym today. It was a packed house.

In other news, we started giving our little guys solid food a few days ago (pureed sweet potatoes). Sweet potatoes & breast milk - what a meal! Now that they are accustomed to sitting in their chairs during mealtimes, perhaps my wife and I can resume eating like civilized individuals, instead of us each holding a little guy, and shoveling the food into our eating holes. They are both over 15lbs, and as one of our friends described them, "solid".

Today's training was okay. I lost a bit of steam early in the day while dealing with the hot surface ignitor for the upstairs furnace.

Split jumps (per Nick Delgadillo): 10
    Split / power cleans: bar x 10, 135x3, 155x2, 185x1, 205x1, 225x1, 235x1 (PR for iron plates in my garage)
    Clean High Pulls: 245x2,2,2
    Press (with bands): 95x5x5, 105x5, 115x5, 125x3,3,3
28 minutes - walk / run with my dog (run one block, walk a block, etc.)

I enjoyed pressing with bands. The motion has to be fast, otherwise it gets really hard, really quickly. At least dealing with the furnace ignitor was off-set by being able to play and set up a new bass I just got yesterday, a 2009 G&L L2500 with a birds eye maple fingerboard, flamed maple top, and ash body. I still need to do a little work on it (relief, string height, intonation, strap locks), but I put it through the paces today. It looks good & sounds good too. Just in time for my gig next weekend.

    Stay strong my friends.

I got a decent one in at lunch today.

    COC work: #1 x 5, #1.5 x 15
    Wide grip pullups: 3,3,3,3,3

    Solid.

I trained after work today, and got in a decent session.

    Push Press: 95x5, 135x3, 155x2, 185x2, 205x1, 225x1, 235x1, 245xF, 245x1, 250xF,F, 225x1,2,1,1 (PR - 1RM)
    Curl: 45x5, 70x12,12, 85x10,10, 100x6,6, 70x12,12
    COC work: #1 x 5, #1.5 x 10

I was pretty happy about the 245 max. It is my first new max single this year. It feels awesome to hold that much weight above my head. I'll bet it doesn't feel as good as 300 though...

    Default Another day, another maximum

Today's session was a quick one at lunch.

    Squat: 135x5, 225x3, 315x1, 365x1, 405x1, 425x1, 440x1, 405x2,2,2,2 (PR - 1RM for belt only)
    Split jumps: 10
    Power cleans (bar only): 10
    Chins: 3,3,3

I skipped doing power cleans today - I could tell with one rep at 140 that it wouldn't happen, especially after squatting. I'm proud of the squats though. I'm back in PR territory (belt only) & it is awfully nice to go 4-wheeling on backoff sets. It is just a matter of time until it is all-time PRs.

I was talking with the gym manager today. They are all set to buy additional equipment. More bumper plates, more kettlebells, more plates. Apparently there is concern with deadlifting with steel plates & the noise. I'll have to lower them under a little more control. The request for hundred pound plates was denied, but I am welcome to bring in a pair of my own if I want. And after casually requesting about chalk, the manager went over to the equipment manager (who also happened to be there). Our chalk supply is replenished! Hooray!

Hey. That's a pretty nice squat PR! Sounds like you have a great set up at the work gym.

    Thanks, David!

It is a great set-up. The best part about on days like this is that it is HEATED!

    starting strength coach development program
I got a decent session in at lunch today.

    Split jumps: 5,5
    Snatch (split): bar x 10, 95x3,3, (115x3)x6, 120x3,3 (1:30 rest between sets)
    Chins: 4,4,4,4
    Good mornings: 100x10,10,10,10
    Pinch grip: 25lb plate x 10 seconds x 8 times (each hand)

The snatch weight is still light, and I am focusing on a violent explosion and correct footwork. I also decided to work on the pinch grip between snatch sets. I grabbed a thick 25lb plate, and held it by the edge, pinching it between my thumb and index finger. A precursor to ripping decks of cards much easier.

After a session like that, it is best to fuel up with an excellent lunch. I recommend a head of broccoli and a pound of ground beef with hot sauce. Delicious.
