Deadlift day!!!
Warmup: 24kg KB swings x 20
Deadlift: 245x5, 335x3, 425x1, 475x1, (520x1)x10; 3:00 to 3:45 between lifts
Time: 57 minutes
BW: 252.0lb
Doing the singles was a mental game today, but I got all ten. I like to deadlift.
One guy was complaining (to everyone who would listen) that his wife told him he was "too skinny". My advice was to use the 100lb plates - they would surely cure him of being too small. His response was classic: "Are you kidding? I can't even take them off the rack!". Stay skinny, my friend.

Conditioning day on the rower.
Warmup: 2019m in 8:56
Intervals (3:00 on, 1:00 rest): 737m, 739m, 722m, 681m, 702m
BW: 252.0lb
I left my house this morning thinking that I would go for a run at lunchtime. I quickly realized that I would rather sit on my ass and watch television, so I did the rower.

I had a conference call at noon today, so I went to the gym in the middle of the afternoon. It is interesting how something as simple as training at a different than normal time of day changes the session
Curl: 45x5, 65x5, 85x5, 95x1, 112.5x5, 110x5,5,5,5
Press: 95x5, 145x3, 165x1, 175x5, 175x4, 172.5x5, 167.5x5,5
BW: 253.5lb (after I had eaten lunch)
I have been enjoying the independent set 5x5 method. The last rep on the curls were a real struggle, so there will likely be some variation introduced in the weights used. Both of these lifts have huge mental hurdles for me. Slowly but surely, with a rep or two here & there, the weights go up.
Stay strong, my friends.

You did the curls first? I'm always concerned about how'd that affect my other lifts.

My front deltoids get tired with curls, which definitely affect pressing. I try to alternate which one goes first (press or curls). When I begin training for competition again, I'll do them after benching, in order to get the biggest bang-for-buck earliest. Due to life outside the gym, my current goals are to focus on a small handful of lifts & really make some decent progress on them.

SQUAT DAY!!!
I did a little bit of ego lifting to start.
Anderson squats (weight starts at pins set at 2/3rd of lifter height = 48"): 245x5, 335x3, 425x3, 475x3, 515x3, 565x3, 605x2, 625x1; PRs 1RM & 2RM
Squats: 245x5, 335x3, 370x5,5,5,6
BW: 252.0lb
Time: WAY TOO long. Between jawing & helping a friend squat - way too long.
Yes, I realize the Anderson squat is a quarter squat. I figured that if that is the most common squatting style at the gym, I might as well see what I can do. If nothing else, I know that I can stand with 625lb (which feels AWESOME!). The reps at 370 were all legit, deep & full. It will be an awesome day when I walk out 625 & take it all the way down & up.
Hope everyone has a great Fourth, and filled with PRs all over the place.

Today was a quick session, and I got in as much as I could before the little guys woke up from nap time.
Press: 95x5, 145x3, 165x1, 175x5,5,4, 170x5,3
Curl: 65x5, 85x5, 95x3, 115x5, 113x4,5,5*
* - although I met the 5 reps on these two sets, I did them after a VERY long break between sets (over an hour). Not anywhere close to the 2-3 minutes I normally use. I plan on keeping the sets at this weight, especially as I skipped the last set.
Today was a great day. Some lifting, time with family, a friend's BBQ, and beautiful weather. And the little guys put themselves to sleep for the first time tonight! Ferberizing is working.

Monday, July 7, 2014.
Another deadlift PR today, and another great day to be alive.
Warmup: 24kg KB swing x 20
Deadlift: 245x4, 335x3, 425x1, 475x1, 500x5; PR - 5RM
Power clean: 155x3, 175x3, 205x2,2, 225x1, 245xF
Time: 55 minutes
BW: 250.5lb
The deadlifts were challenging, mainly because I think 500lbs is a huge mental game. The last couple of reps were ugly, but they weren't hitched, and would have passed in any federation. I've already begun mentally preparing to get 575x1 next week. I decided to power clean after the set of 5 instead of pulling reps - just for a break & something different. The 245xF isn't a disappointment, considering I haven't power cleaned in months, and had just deadlifted.
In other news, I was able to use the next hole on my belt. Either some sneaky bastard stretched my belt without my knowledge, or this controlling my eating is working (15lbs down since Easter). That half a pound was a little disappointing, as I missed getting 2XBW x 5, but I'll get it next month.
I love lifting heavy things.
