Thanks for the well-wishes. I was starting to forget which side of the barbell goes up. Lifting must release endorphins or something, because I found myself fantasizing about lifting while I was sick. I still have a hacking dry cough and clogged ears, but despite that and the fact that I've eaten about four calories since the weekend, I made it to the gym tonight. No plan, just reawaken the old joints.

    Squat 275x5x2
    Bench 175x3, 165x5
    OHP 115x5x2
    Deadlift 275x5

Man, you forget how heavy the weights are.

Still have half a cold and haven't been eating. So.

    Power cleans
    125 x 3 x 2
120 x 3 x bunches. Form practice. Did 'em fast. Lots of fun. Let's Crossfit!

Bench....yeah sure. 155x5, 175x3, 165x5x2 or something. Felt heavy, wah wah wah.

Squats felt GREAT. Have no clue why. Got up to 315 x 5.

While unloading the bar the last two 45's said "press me." So I tried. Pfft. So I pressed 125 x 5.

    Chins x3, x3, x2, x2, x2

    Volume Day - Squats 290 x 5 x 5

Today I start a new gig. I'm leaving the trauma unit and joining the research department as a study coordinator. Not really sure what that means, but it'll be a change of scenery. Office hours, no weekends, no holidays, and a pay raise. Can't beat that.

    Tuesday 9 December 2014 6:20-7:00am

    Volume Day
    Bench
    180 x 5, x 3
    175 x 5, x 4, x 3
    170 x 5

    What a mess.

    Deadlift
310 x one inch off the floor, banged down, stood up, reflected on how I've been sick for two weeks, and not eating, and I'm hungry now, and my bench sucked, but then suddenly I sprouted a pair of mental testicles and:

    310 x 5

Without even taking my hands off the bar. 5 rep PR right there.

Haha, probably. I hope I can break through this wall I've been nudging against for months.

Second day at the new job. We had a meeting, did some work, departed for lunch at a restaurant for our Christmas party, and then took the rest of the day off. So this is what office life is like, eh?

Intensity "Hope Nobody Notices I Skipped Recovery Day" Day

Power cleans 125 x 3...so I hatched this theory that using full size plates would actually be a little easier since I'm pulling from a deficit with the commie 35 lb plates. What's the worst that can happen, I throw the bar through the gym's mirror-covered drywall? Well, it almost didn't go up, but:

    135 x 1 x 5 (five singles)
    125 x 3 x 2

    Fun, hard, and sweaty.

    Squat 320 x 5

Bench 195 x 2, the third failed, and my spotter insisted on double-timing the last two reps so we did them together because explaining Rippetoe Theory, or anything, to the guy who's holding the bar you're failing under is kinda like explaining mountain climbing to the guy who's holding you from falling off a cliff: I'll do anything you say if don't let me die.

    It's a little known fact: I can't bench.
