Bench doubles. This first 250x2 might be a 2 rep PR. I'll have to look. Also, I feel it almost ripped the abdominal-facing heads of my pecs. Bruh. So I backed off the weight a bit.

    Thursday 31 May 2018:

Yesterday we went to a small drive-in diner that's been there since 1960. I had a great steak sandwich. My wife's dad used to go there in high school back in the sixties. They have photos on the wall of employee reunions, which is kinda wild to think about. When we were there, a couple roofers or plumbers (wearing overalls and knee pads) came in and ordered the biggest soft serve ice cream cones ever.

Then we went to an ice cream shop that's been there since....well, it's the second or third store, and the first started in 1936, and this one certainly hasn't been updated since 1986. We shared a caramel sundae.

I love this old Chicago stuff, since I come from a place where people move to, rather than grow up in, and few businesses and few local memories go back further than the 1990's, or 1970-80's at best.

    Anyway, on to today:

    Deadlift 8's 335 x 8
    335 x 8 strapped
    315 x 8 strapped

Yeah okay that's it. I'll do the rest later.

This reminds me of something my father once said. He went to college at a military school and had to go through the whole first-year hazing experience. What he said was, "I'm glad I went through it, but I wouldn't go through it again."

    Saturday 2 June 2018:

I get this thing where my lower back seizes up - the muscles all cramp and get tight and it's hard to even bend over. Some guys on the Baker fb group suggested potassium salts or Gatorade.

It happened after benching (??) but I gave that a whirl (dumped some salt substitute in a glass with some Gatorade powder) and that actually cleared it up immediately. That was cool.

    Hey, thanks by the way.

    Wednesday 6 June 2018:

The overhead press really teaches you that you are but man, a rational animal but still an animal, a physical creature whose achievements are dependent on the cooperation of complicated tissues and obscure biochemical processes, a being who may ride the strugglebus to get even 2 reps of 165 lbs up a couple weeks ago and yet today? NBD. 3x5 no problem. Sure, do six reps on the last set. What the heck.

And that's on six hours' sleep and waking up hungry. Who can even know?

I don't know if I've done sets of 8 on chinups ever before. Def not at this bodyweight. The programming on that front is working out well. ("Programming" probably = just getting lots of reps in a couple times a week)

The barbell curls were "go as heavy as possible" (mentally I'm putting 95-100 lbs on the bar) but "while still maintaining strict form" (oh. start mentally stripping weight off the bar)

    Press 165 x 5
    165 x 5
    165 x 6 just because
    Press 20% backoff amrap 135 x 12
    Chin ups bw x 8
    bw x 8
    bw x 8
    Dips bw x 10
    +35 lbs x 10
    +35 lbs x 10
    +25 lbs x 10
    Barbell curls 65 x 10
    85 x 10
    85 x 10
    75 x 10
    75 x 10

We're doing anniversary stuff so I didn't have a lot of time. Pushing my deadlift hard though. I'm enjoying this.

    Deadlift 375 x 5 x 3

Possibly a volume pr. Gotta run though!
