Welcome back.
Hope your dad has a speedy recovery!
Time to get back at it after a two-week visit with my 93-year-old father, who was recovering from pneumonia. With all my visits to the hospital I didn't have time to lift, so I scaled back quite a bit on my first workout this past Saturday:
Squat: 235x5x3 (weight, reps, sets); four minutes rest.
Bench: 190x5, 192.5x5, 195x5; four minutes rest.
Deadlift: 335x5
Welcome back.
Hope your dad has a speedy recovery!
Thanks very much, BD and Oldster. He's a tough and determined old guy--sailed in convoys during WW2 as a Merchant Marine officer. During the war the the Merchant Marine had the highest per capita casualties of any branch of service except for the Marine Corps.
He's scheduled to leave the hospital and return home tomorrow.
Good to hear your father is doing well and you are back to lifting again.
Thanks, Jan. I appreciate your kind thoughts.
Another workout today. I'll ramp up over the next two weeks and then get back into Andy Baker's Strength and Mass After 40 program.
Today:
Squats: 240x5, 245x5, 250x5; four minutes rest; unbelted.
Press: 125x5, 127.5x5, 130x5; four minutes rest.
Chins: body plus ten pounds, three sets of five; five minutes rest. chest to bar.
Woohoo! What a great session, Yoda.
Good to hear about your dad. My grandfather was a merchant marine, too. Not sure if he was an officer, he died when I was barely a teenager.
Thanks, Oldster. I've got quite a way to go to get anywhere close to your numbers. My years might run out before I get there!
Aside from a brief stint when I was younger I'm the first person in my family not to take up a career at sea. My father's back home now, being catered to by one of my sisters.
Still ramping up after my two-week dad-cation.
Squats: 255x5, 260x5, 265x5; five minutes rest; no belt.
Bench: 197.5x5, 200x5, 202.5; five minutes rest.
Dead: 345x5; hook grip.
Everything felt pretty good. I'll do one more week of adding weight each workout, then my plan is to shift back to my intermediate programming using Andy Baker's S&M+40.
At the request of my father, my brother and I were the first of our family not to serve in the military. It's a long story, but bowed to his plea.
Good news! I'm happy for you. Not just your father is home, but your sister is taking care of him!My father's back home now, being catered to by one of my sisters.
