I hope they let me lift in my cloak.#YodaDefeatsTheEmpire
Last day of another cycle of Andy Baker's Strength and Mass After 40 program. Heavy deads and light squats today.
Squats: 275x3x5, no belt, two minutes rest.
Deads: 450x1x3, no belt or straps, just hook grip and chalk. Seven minutes rest. Tough but not excruciating.
SLDL: 350x8x1, 350x6x1; straps, six minutes rest. These are starting to feel challenging but I think I can go up to 355 next time I do them.
BB shrugs: 267.5x15x3, straps, four minutes rest. I might stick with this weight and try for 17 to 20 reps next time.
So, my total for this cycle was a nice even 1050: 360 squat, 240 bench, 450 dead. I hope I can do a bit more than that at the meet next month. Felt a bit tired today. Might be time for a deload week. I'll see how I feel on Tuesday.
Impressive work, codger! You're making great progress!
De-Load for sure.
Does Andy's program have a "peaking phase" that can carry you into the meet?
Thanks, Jan! Glad to see you still stopping by hereImpressive work, codger! You're making great progress!
I think I will de-load--the past six weeks have been pretty heavy. The program doesn't really have a peaking phase so I'm not sure what the best plan would be. A week of triples the week leading up to the meet, with maybe a couple of days off before the meet?De-Load for sure.

Codger,
FWIW, my two cents...
Glad you're doing the de-load based on the way you say you're feeling.
So you de-load for a week, that leaves you four weeks to the meet. You can run triples through week three, and then openers the week of the meet. If you're still feeling beat up after the first two weeks, drop to doubles in week three.
My coach had us run triples up to the April meet, and doubles into the October meet. This time we've stayed with doubles and singles and I don't feel quite so beat up.
My feeling is that that you need to fight the idea that you need grind right up to the meet. Your training has been great thus far, taper into the meet and you'll crush it.
