We're at the point where everything is hard hard hard.

    We'll get there...eventually.

    Keep grinding Codger...
Thanks, BD. You too. We might have to get shirts with a "Keep Grinding" logo.

The ladies have decreed that massive & powerful is acceptable...
I wish I could make it to the massive and powerful category. I felt pretty puny compared with every other guy who was in my flight at the meet. I guess I'm relatively massive compared with the old (younger!) me. And you're right. I don't have any choice now that SWMBO has made her preferences known.

Heavy benches today plus some assistance work.

    Press: 137.5x3x5, two minutes rest.

Bench: 235x2x1, 230x3x2; eight minutes rest. I was surprised that I missed the third rep on 235. During my last cycle of triples I managed sets of 3, 3, and 2 reps at 235. All my lifts for the past two weeks have been off by several pounds. I'll be traveling for a few weeks in June. Maybe the break from training will do me good. I think when I resume training at the end of June I'll switch to Andy Baker's KSC Method for Raw Power Lifting.

Incline DB press: 70 (each, 140 total)x6x1, 65x9x2, seven minutes rest. Same story here. Had to drop the weight by five pounds to hit my rep range. Aargh.

Dips with 52.5 pounds: 10 reps, 9, 8. At least I the dips haven't dipped. Managed a few more reps than last week.

Thanks, Shug. I just need to reverse this regression of the last week or so.

Heavy deads today plus some light squats and some other work.

Squats: 290x3x5, no belt, two minutes rest.

Deads: 435x3x3, no belt; straps; eight minutes rest.

SLDL: 365x8x1; 365x6x1; straps, no belt; eight minutes rest. I'll bump the weight up to 370 next week.

BB shrugs: 275x15x3, straps, three to four minutes rest.

Thanks, BD. The deadlift is always gratifying. I feel like it re-sets my whole body if anything is bothering me.

Starting a week of heavy singles.

Press: 162.5x1x3, belted, eight minutes rest. These felt pretty good. My last week of singles I did 165 but since my presses have been off a bit for the last couple of weeks I decided to drop the weight a bit.

Close-grip bench: 205x7x1; 205x6x1; 205x5x1; five minutes rest. Increased my total reps by one from last week, so a quantum of progress.

LTE with dumbbells: 42.5x8x2; 37.5x10x1. I hadn't tried lying triceps extensions with dumbbells before so I wasn't sure what weight to use. The last set @ 37.5 (each hand) felt about right. Three minutes rest.

Standing overhead triceps extension with EZ curl bar, another new exercise for me: 45x12x1; 65x12x1; 75x10x1. Three minutes rest. I'll go with 75 next time I do these.

I had been doing LTE's with a straight olympic bar but I wanted to mix things up a bit. I'll continue to vary the sorts of triceps extensions I do in my workouts from now on.
