    More heavy singles today.

Squat: 340x1x3 (weight, reps, sets); belted, three to four minutes rest. Slow but doable.

Chins, touching chest to bar with 15 pounds around my waist: three sets of 6; five minutes rest.

BB rows: 180x10x3; straps, four minutes rest. I'll go up to 185 next week.

DB curls, 37.5 each hand: three sets of 10.

This may be one of the most impressive posts I've ever seen, Yoda. Pulling your chest to the bar with an extra 15 pounds? Few people can do that for a single rep and no weight, and you did it for three sets of six!

    Impressive as heck.

I used to have a student in class who could do it easily. He was tall and lanky with long wiry arms. I had so much fun with him, I'd holler at him to get higher (with no added weight) and no kidding, he would pull his abdomen to the bar. He was chinning machine like I'd never saw before nor since. Thick glasses, nodded yes anytime I mentioned something and never failed to give 100%. Always wondered what happened to him.

Thanks, Oldster, as always, for the encouragement. Abdomen to the bar! A feat that I fear will remain forever beyond the abilities of my codgerly frame.

Got hit with one of life's big blows today. My father died this afternoon. He was 93. Had a mild heart attack this morning, was taken to the hospital where it looked at first like he might recover but he didn't manage to pull through. So I'm heading east again on Saturday for at least a couple of weeks. I hope you'll be setting some PRs by the time I get back.

I am so sorry, Yoda. Now is a time for family and reflection. Prayer sent.

He was about 50 years younger, too.

Thank you all very much for your kind thoughts. My father was a lucky man in many ways. He had a good, long run--93 years--was able to live at home until his very last day, and remained sharp until the end. He even went out to his favorite restaurant two days before he died. When the end came it came fast.
    Now I'm back at it.
