Good for you. I hope it works. Can he afford online coaching?

He could, but probably wouldn't at this point. He's the first to admit that he sucks at sticking with anything but golf, so while signing up for coaching would probably help with consistency and compliance, I doubt he'd see it as a great investment at this point. He's stuck with his idiot son for a coach for now! I think he's getting more into it already though. He called me last night after his second workout to discuss his squat form haha

You know your Dad and so are probably right about not considering lifting to be a great investment. However, his calling you may be a glimmer of hope. I doubt that either of my sons thought I would stick with lifting. Yet, here I am after almost 6 years. Who knows?

Well, I couldn't even talk him into springing for micro plates and lifting shoes, and had to give him my shitty old belt haha He just wants to make sure it's something he wants to stick with before spending any money on it, and my counterargument that he's more likely to stick with it if he does it right was insufficiently persuasive. He and my mom also snowbird off to warmer climates in the winter, so he won't be able to be consistent with it for a while anyways.

He dug your video though! That deadlift blew his mind! When I gave him TBP, he looked at the cover with a dude pulling 225 and said "That's too much weight." Watching you pull that opened his eyes quite a bit. I also got him to agree to read SS:BBT, so I think we're making some progress here.

Here's hoping he sticks with it like you have!

I hope he does as well.

    First training after Fall Classic.

    Squat: 70 x 5; 120 x 5; 160 x 3; 202.5 x 1; 225 x 3 x 2; 100 x 5 Pause Squat to get proper depth. I do not like Squats at all.
    Bench: 45 x 5; 95 x 3; 135 x 2; 140 x 5; 126 x 5
    Dead: 135 x 3; 225 x 2; 315 x 1; 320 x 3

    HLM

    Squat: 70 x 5 (paused); 120 x 5; 160 x 3; 202.5 x 5 x 2; 100 x 5 x 2 (paused). Paused squats are harder than they look.
    Press: 45 x 5; 65 x 3; 85 x 2; 100 x 1; 114 x 1; 130 x 0 Tried for a new PR. Maybe next time.
    Prowler: 90 x 6 x 4

    starting strength coach development program
Thanks, Michael. I'm working on a program to make it possible to do the squat. More news later.

    Squat: 70 x 5 (pause squats); 120 x 5; 160 x 3; 210 x 1; 234 x 2 x 2; 100 x 5 x 2 (paused squat)
    Bench: 45 x 5; 95 x 3; 135 x 2; 146 x 2 x 2
    Dead: 135 x 3; 225 x 2; 315 x 1; 322.5 x 1; 360 x 0 (too big of a jump)
