Well, you know you a lot better than I do. I do know you'll get there soon, though. What's your opinion on hook grip?

My studied opinion on hook grip: It's highly effective, but I'm an irredeemable pussy. I tap out on hook grip around 275 because it hurts my widdle fingers. Suppose I could run a progression; Joe Jaloszynski has worked his HG up into the mid-500s.

    Arizona Method, W1D4

    Squat: 255x8, 305x8, 355x9 (9PR!) Video of 355 at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “355x9. 9PR! Arizona Method week 1 (8s Week) complete. SDG #arizonamethod #22000lbs4johnson #22miles4johnson #teamssoc #texasmethod…”

Felt creaky in the joints from running. We'll see if I can maintain this pace through my APFT trainup I suppose. Also, 50lb jumps between working sets is daunting. But this beat my old 9PR by 25lbs, so no complaints. I probably had 10, maybe 11, if I leaned all the way into it, but my mind was unwilling to force the extra effort from my body.

Calls himself a pussy, posts video of 355x9 squats. :-)

I tried alternate grip at first but it made my supinated-side bicep feel weird. Tried hook grip, hurt like a son of a gun for a while, now I really don't feel anything.

I'd be tempted to just use straps and get that deadlift pr squared away, just for the satisfaction of finally breaking 500 pounds.

If anyone says you're a pussy for using straps, just tell them you've converted to strong man.

I've never had the weirdness problem with alternate grip, so it just seems like the natural way to go for me.

I hear ya, but it wouldn't count to me.

My plan instead: Get a better barbell and start bringing it to EoS. The EoS bar has a 19" blank gap (regulation is 17", and the extra inches matter a lot at PR intensity), and poor knurling for grip. Works fine for squat/bench/press; DL not so much.

I have an envelope next to my keyboard marked "Barbell Fund." It has 120$ in it right now. Once it grows to 310-ish, I'm getting the SS bar.

By the time I'm back to TM and closing in on the 500, I hope to have the new bar in hand.

    Arizona Method, W2D1 and W2D2

Got Press 5s and DL 5s in the same day. Also, did some bench work and got a new all-time PR. Video of top sets at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “What a day. Press, 190x7 (7PR!). Deadlift 425x6 (6PR!). Bench 350x1 (All time single PR!). SDG #arizonamethod #22000lbs4johnson…”

    Press: 150x5, 170x5, 190x7 (7PR!)

    Deadlift: 325x5, 375x5, 425x6 (6PR!)

    Bench: 275x1, 325x1, 350x1 (All-Time 1PR!)

So I was feeling a bit superhero-ish today, and chased down three separate PRs. Don't have to touch a barbell again until Thursday. Good times.

    APFT prep, Run 3

    1.5 miles: 13m20s (PPM 8m54s)

Increased distance to 1.5 miles and kept a sub-9. Tomorrow I'll try to beat this.

Plus side: If maintained out to 2 miles, that's a passing pace.

Additional plus side: Once the stiffness was out, the back half of the run was significantly faster.

    APFT prep, Run 4

    1.5 miles: 12m29s (PPM 8m20s)

Goal today was just to beat yesterday. Goal met: Cut 50 seconds.

This pace is good for a score of 75 if maintained for 2 miles (60 is a passing score). We're on the right track.

I finalized the plan last night:

Week 1 (8s week for lifts) was 1 mile on successive nights; night 2 goal is beat night 1. On lifts: Make VX PRs on all 4 bigs each week. Complete; Success.

Week 2 (5s week for lifts) same scheme but 1.5 miles. Status: In progress: 2 lifts successful, 2 runs successful, 2 lifts remain.

Week 3 (3s week for lifts) same but 2 miles.

Week 4 (2s week for lifts) same but back to 1.5 miles, try to beat week 2 best.

Week 5 (1s week for lifts) back to 1 mile, try to beat best mile pace. TEST DAY IS SATURDAY OF THIS WEEK. (I'm supposed to make a PR Squat single the day before the test. Lol. We'll see.)

    Arizona Method, W2D3

    5s week, Bench 5s

    Bench Press: 225x5, 265x5, 300x7 (7PR!) Video of top set at @gdbischoff - 300x7. 7PR! Arizona Method still on pace... | Picpanzee

I'm sure I had 8; maybe as many as 10 with a spotter, but I was in a hurry and didn't see any of my trusted folks.

    Bench Press, Additional Volume: 245x10x3

    Just for the tonnage really.

    5s week, Squat 5s

    Squat: 275x5, 325x5, 375x7 (7PR!) Video of top set at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “375x7. 7PR! Week 2 of Arizona Method complete. 8 sessions, 9 PRs. SDG! #22000lbs4johnson #22miles4johnson #weights #wendler531 #teamssoc…”

After video, I saw that the 7th rep which felt like it was a billion years long was actually under 3 seconds. Could've gone further I suppose. Week 2 done; so far on Arizona Method: 8 sessions, 9 PRs. Going well so far.

I could tell today that I need some mid-week squatting volume. I'll figure out where to put it. Maybe backoffs after deadlift, dunno.
