    Now for a week of more familiar-looking Texas Method-y stuff. But as I often do, VD is broken into manageable pieces. Tonight:

    Bench: 285x5x5

    This took some work, but I looked in my log and saw it was a tie for my best 5x5 on bench. It's also almost exactly 90% of my ID target this week.

    Row: 260x2x3 (V6 PR), 225x6x2

    Progression rows. Got the doubles in. Now it's back to 8s for next row progression; next week I expect.

    Last time at this weight, lost grip on 4th rep, barely completed 4. This time, hands were welded to the bar. I like my new SS bar. A lot.

    Progression Press: 197.5x5x3 (V15 PR!)

    5s on presses; a new sets across PR, and only 2.5lbs off of my best 5RM.

    Video shows I quit on 5. If you look at rep 4, the last one that came up, my slotting was horrible. Don't know what's wrong with my movement pattern today. Still happy to get this in the books: My last 4rep was 390, so this was a 20# bump. Right now, my short-set PRs are clustered: 440x1, 425x2, 415x3, 410x4, 405x5. That's okay I guess.

    Intensity Bench: 317.5x5

    Got the win I've needed on a 5RM. 315 has been my best since May. This was challenging, but not a grinder: May have had 320, but that kind of thinking is what has kept me at 315 for 7 months, so ... I'm very glad to get this in the books.

    Well this is a volume PR. These were hellish. The only saving grace is that I expect some hypertrophic effects in my low back, quads, and glutes. Also, I don't have to use those muscles for major load again until Friday (presses Thursday will use them some, but deadlifts on Friday will be next major use).

    I hated these so very much, especially set 3.

    Missed this by a rep last week; got it this week and still felt like there was some in the tank. Right wrist has hurt since Monday, still hurts today. Got relief from some Diclofenac on Tuesday; probably use more of that today, and tomorrow, and hope the weekend heals what's ailing me.

    10s Week: Not conducted


    I was feeling like that Toby Keith song today, "I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was." Rather than deadlift 385x10x3, I started working up higher. At 405, the rep took 1.5 seconds. At 440, it took 2.0. So, I loaded 460 and went for a new 5PR.

    Got that sucker. Microloaded through my sticking point at 315, now I've got two new fahves in a row (317.5, 320).

    Intensity Squat: 420x3 (3PR!)

    Some grind on rep 3, and I'm burying the depth deeper than I have to again. I guess I'd rather squat low than high, but sure with I could find the Goldilocks Zone on this.

    Yesterday, I'd planned to slip in today and hit 465x5. Continue normal Texas Method progression on deadlifts, be patient, hit 500lbs in 8 to 16 weeks. But dangit, I wanted 500 before 2020, so I did it.

    Loaded 510 after and barely budged it.

    Intensity Press: 205x4 (4PR)

    Wanted this for 5, but I misgrooved rep 3 badly and had to fight it up. That fatigue, plus residual fatigue from deadlifts, borked the set. Oh well: I'm not doing TM for press anyway; I'm doing rep-range progression. I'll go back to that and likely have better results.
