445 Felt good, man. I'm still scared of long sets (anything over 3 reps) on a heavy squat right now, though ... sigh.

    GIP2, W11D3

    Press 10s

    Press: 155x10x3 (V30 PR)

Tried and failed to do this for three sets of 8, about 4 months back. This was a smoke-show, knocked out matter-of-factly between my friend's bench sets (see "Tim's Log," in Novice section).

    Intensity Deadlift: 470x3 (3PR!), 405x3 Video of top set at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “470x3. 3PR! SDG #22000lbs4johnson #22miles4johnson #teamssoc #texasmethod #usstrengthlifting #power #powerlifting #linearprogression…”

I know, I know. I was going to do volume. Ugh.

In slow-mo on the video, 3rd rep locks out so I'm counting it. But immediately after lock, R grip started to slip. I'm now realizing that my whole right arm is in a bit of distress right now: The elbow bursitis is also impacting grip strength. So, yeah ... need to back off the volume or intensity or both to train through this a bit while letting it heal. Wish I still had my Diclofenac.

Yeah, you can see the right hand loosen a bit, but you should count it, especially if you have some elbow bursitis impacting your grip. It might have been a competition flag (not sure on those details), but it was on rep 3. If all 3 looked similar, then I'd expect it to be more of an issue. I hope the elbow heals soon and well.

Yeah man. This elbow biz is nothing new. Every time it goes away I naively think it's over for good, but heh, that's silly. I did notice that my elbow felt better after deadlift day. Makes me glad I reapproached for a triple at 405 to get some more volume.

    Intensity Squat

    Squat: 405x3x2 (V6 PR!)

Got 'em done. This is a small PR for 6 reps. They came up slow and tough. I'm a bit mentally fatigued right now. I'm running out the rest of the week's training however I can, and then next week I'm going to take one of my "mental breaks," which will either be a 3-week pause for a 5-3-1, or a 6-week pause for a Candito 6-week.

Tonnage is way low. Might stay that way this week.

    Press Progression, Volume Deadlift

    Press: 207.5x3x3 (V9 PR)

Press progression continues. Next prog-hit is three doubles; I'd have to check my log to be sure but I think it's supposed to be 212.5x2x3.

    Deadlift: 405x10

Holy balls I felt this one. Jacked my heart up to 168 bpm.

    Break Time! Wendler(ish) 531

Okay, this is my mental break now. Doing a quasi-Wendler for 3 weeks. 1 lift/day, 4 days.

Bench: 275x5, 290x5, 305x6 (6PR!) Video at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “305x6. 6PR! Tried for 7 but nope. Thanks to @tzell170 for saving me, and also for letting me grind for awhile. Taking a break. From the…”

Tried for 7. Knew it was a mistake, did it anyway. Got a 4.7 second grind out of it at least.

This 6PR replaces an 8-month-old entry of 295.

    531 Week 1: 5s Week

    Squat: 345x5, 365x5, 385x6

And ... pulled my right hamstring on rep 6 of the top set. Which is a bummer since I was feeling really solid going into this.

So this 531 isn't going to happen; instead I'll be rehabbing. Tried to do rows after; couldn't even get into position. Was working with Tim, and when he was deadlifting I started rehab with:

    Deadlift: 135x5x2, 185x3

Twinge-y but not excruciating. I'll start rehab from here. I'll find out in a couple days if I can bench and press normally around this, or if I'm going to have to back those off too.

    531 Week 1: 5s Week, Press

Press: 165x5, 185x5, 202.5x5 (5PR!) Video at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “202.5x5. 5PR! This beats an 11-month-old record. Glad to get rid of it. When your lower body is injured, get that upper. SDG…”

I've wanted this 5PR for awhile. I'm glad that my hamstring issue is relatively minor, and glad that I was able to grind this out today.

    Squat (Rehab): 185x5x3

Could've done more, but I was coaching Tim today, so I just squatted his working weight.

    Deadlift (Rehab): 135x5, 225x5, 250x4

I stopped on that last set not because I couldn't get the rep, but because my right testicle got pinched in my business. Wups.

Not going to bother tracking tonnage during a rehab.

531 Week 2: 3s Week, Bench (And some Squats)

Squat: 405x1, 430x1, 455x1 (PR!) Video at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “455x1 squat. PR! 6 days after a minor hamstring tweak. Because screw injury. SDG! #22000lbs4johnson #22miles4johnson #weights #wendler531…”

Screw being injured. This felt good today. Hamstring is good to go, and this is a 10lb PR, and a milestone number (4 and a half plates).

    Bench: 275x3, 305x3, 327.5x4 (4PR!)

This was my regularly scheduled 531 bench.
