Got a small, undesignated windfall today. My envelope marked "Barbell Fund" now has 290$ in it. So close. Soon I'll have my bar.

    Arizona Method, W3D1

3s Week: Press and Deadlift 3s. Today I was able again to get the press day and deadlift day into a single session. Video of top sets at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “Arizona Method week 3: 3s week. Press: 212.5x3 (3PR!). Deadlift: 455x4 (4PR!). Today was tough. God lent me strength to get thru. SDG…”

    Press: 175x3, 195x3, 212.5x3 (3PR!)

Tried for a 4th on that last press set. I had it, but my brain quit on me while the bar was still rising. Something's mentally off for me the last couple days; concentration has been difficult. This seems to be another example of whatever's bugging my brain.

    Deadlift: 405x3, 435x3, 455x4 (4PR!)

I really wanted 5 of these. Reps 1 thru 3 came up in 2-ish seconds; rep 4 took 4+ seconds and drained me so I didn't go for the 5. I'll look at the video later and see what the issue is. In the past my problem with late-set efficiency has been directly related to getting "into my heels" rather than over midfoot as fatigue sets in.

No real complaints, though: Two PRs in an evening.

    APFT prep, Run 5

    2 miles: 18m40s (PPM 9m20s)

First full-length run. This result would be 57 points, 60 is passing. So a failure. The issue was endurance: The muscles around my ankles started throbbing and didn't quit (usually they numb out after awhile). Whelp, tomorrow I will get out again and try to beat this!

    APFT Prep, Run 6

    Postponed for illness

I should know better than to run at midday in Phoenix after all these years. I don't know what's in the air but it shuts down my respiratory tract regularly if I run at midday; at night not so much. I'm a dripping mess of Claritin and Kleenex right now. I expect lifting will be unaffected tomorrow, but I'm not running a step. Perhaps Saturday night.

    Arizona Method, W3D3 and W3D4

Got two for the price of one again. 3s week. Two 3PRs today. Video of top sets at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “Arizona Method, 3s Week: Squat 415x3 (3PR!) and Bench 330x3 (3PR!) God is merciful. #22000lbs4johnson #22miles4johnson #weights…”

    Bench: 285x3, 305x3, 330x3 (3PR!)

If a trusted spotter was present, maybe I had 4?

    Squat: 375x3, 395x3, 415x3 (3PR!)

Fought 4.3 seconds for rep 3. Got out-of-slot as I often do as sets progress. Ugh. But! 3PR, only 10 lbs under my all-time single PR.

Dude your killing it! Man you really stay with your lifts and don't quit. I've got to do that more with my training.

Thanks for the encouragement! It's been going well this cycle. I may be winding down, though. Starting to feel a bit burnt out ...

    Arizona Method, W4D1

2s Week: Press Day. Video of top set at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “Arizona Method, 2s week: Press 220x2 (2PR!) Pretty worn out today. God was merciful. #22000lbs4johnson #22miles4johnson #weights…”

    Press: 195x2, 210x2, 220x2 (2PR!), 235x0

Goal of a new 2PR met. That attempt at making a 1PR was just greed really. It went further than expected though (above my head).

    Curl: 75x8x4

I did a few bench presses, too, but my warmup single at 225 felt like crap and I'm generally tired right now. My tonnage goal for the week is officially failed but I think I'll still meet the monthly.

If you've hit that many recent PR's that means your training has been productive, but it would seem natural to be worn out by that at the same time. I would do the same program again but maybe re-set with new numbers on the conservative side to ease in to it and dicipate some of the fatigue.

Well, I plan to go back to the Texas Method that was working for me before. If you look back a bit you'll see that I stopped a TM that was actually working really well, which sucks to have to do, but this 5-week program is to ease back on volume so I can do some running to pass my Army test in 2ish weeks. Actual volume on this "Arizona Method" silliness is not really enough to drive progress; I think what I'm seeing is that I'm displaying the strength I picked up from all that TM volume.

Meanwhile, though, we're another session in and still going well:

    Arizona Method, W4D2

2s Week, Deadlift Day. Video of top set at Geoffrey Bischoff on Instagram: “465x3: 3PR! Arizona Method still moving along. SDG #22000lbs4johnson #22miles4johnson #weights #wendler531 #usstrengthlifting #power…”

    Deadlift: 405x2, 435x2, 465x3 (3PR!)

Got them in, and bar speed was not horrible on any rep (sub-4 even on third rep of that triple, though from inside my body it felt like a glacier crossing North America).

Yeah, I'm a fan of Texas Method too.
I will be going back to what I was doing, just didn't want to be doing Texas Method while dieting.
The leg training is actually still Texas method, but I dropped both volume and intensity on Bench and OHP.

    Diet ends this week.
