    Thanks!

Im one of those guys that neglected cleans in NLP and intermediate. I'm catching up now. But I'm glad, it's fun.

Arm pull is tough to get rid of, and I feel that I'm not out of the woods yet. Congrats on fixing yours!

    Thursday 8/15/19
    Bench 350x1
    Pin press at chin 230x3

    Friday 8/16/19
    Squat 525x2x2
Clean and Press up to 200x1
    Barbell Curls

I picked up some new bottles:
    Suntory Toki Japanese Whisky
    Laphroaig 10
Dry Fly Wheat Whiskey, Port Cask Finish

The Suntory and Laphroaig are just fine. I'm not liking the taste of the Dry Fly at all, which is a bummer because i enjoyed their regular wheat whiskey.

    Tuesday 8/20/19
    Clean, Press 185x3x8
    Squat 405x5x4

Starting today, cleaning all my press volume sets. In a split clean of course, because I like it and it confounds the nearby personal trainers.

Nice lifting man. I think your first pull (ground to mid thigh) is too fast, mainly because the weights are relatively light for you, leading to a less than ideal position and speed to start the second pull (mid thigh up). It is helpful, to me at least, to conceptualize the first pull as primarily a means to get the bar and your body in a good position to explode in the second pull, and only secondarily to generate speed. You can demonstrate this to yourself by trying a hang clean/snatch from just above the knee--my guess is you could move the same weight from there. The following link is a good article by Greg Everett (the Rip of Oly lifting) that addresses this issue: The First Pull: Your First Chance to Get the Snatch & Clean Right by Greg Everett - Olympic Weightlifting - Catalyst Athletics - Olympic Weightlifting

    Good luck! -James

    From the article:
Common First Pull Errors: Too fast
these cases are experienced lifters during light warm-up lifts, and learning lifters whose maximal snatches and cleans, due to technical or even mobility shortcomings, are dramatically lower than their basic strength capacities.
    Hey look, it's me. hahaha...

Transitioning into the jump part of the clean (or second pull) is where I have the most difficulty. Funny that you mention it, I have been thinking about doing a bunch of hang cleans or above the knee to get it right, before going from the floor again.

Thanks for the article! I've got Greg's book, too.

Yes, I read that part and thought, "that's him." Another good option is do some reps from the floor, pause above the knee, then go. Get a feel for where the bar/body needs to be at the pause point, then attempt to replicate in the full movement.
