Left quad is feeling beat up again. Have to keep an eye on that.
Feedback from form check on 435x5 deadlift: be patient at the bottom, take the slack out, and then leg drive off the floor. Most lockouts are soft; lift chest at the top and straighten hips.

Recovery was a little compromised this week due to the second shot. I’ll try 440x5 again next week. Power cleans and power snatches have gotten sloppy, so it’s time to drop the weight and clean them up.

Coach Rip is always telling people on the Q&As, "get your squat up to four oh five" - well, here I am. Feels like a big moment. Had to get the 300 bench in, too.
Deadlift is down to a triple with a backoff set of five at around 85%. I'm two weeks out from competition now.

Friday was the last Intensity session before the meet. I put on the singlet and took each opener twice, practicing commands each time. I squatted and benched outside the rack with no safeties to try to create the feeling of lifting in a strange place.

Ready for the meet on Saturday.
2021 USAPL Maine State Championships
Saturday, July 24th, in Saco, Maine.
Squat.....185/195/200 kg (441 lb)
Bench.....120/125/130 kg (287 lb)
Deadlift...200/210/215 kg (474 lb)
Total - 545 kg (1201 lb)
Nine good lifts, huge PRs, and a 1200 total. I couldn't have asked for a better first meet. The energy in that room was electric - competing is an incredible experience. I will strive to compete once a year.
I passed out briefly under my third attempt bench, but I locked it out. I remember getting the press command, and the world faded out when the bar was most of the way up. When I remembered where I was and what I was doing, the bar was racked with two white lights on the board, and the spotters were asking me if I was ok. Weird experience - I wonder if I screwed up my breathing somehow. Lots of credit to the spotters for keeping me safe on that one.
