Way to be smart, even when it's "Christmas in the gym" as Coach Wolf used to say.

Ha! I had not heard "Christmas in the gym," but it does make sense.

I've been mulling over my last two rack pull sessions—365x5 + unplanned 370x5 on 1/13, then yesterday's 380x5 + unplanned 405x1—and realized that had I been training with intent as I try to do during the warm months that I never would given those unplanned exploratory reps/sets a try, since I wouldn't want to negatively impact my recovery. But during this maintenance season, I don't mind the freedom to fail as much, as it won't negatively impact any planned programming.

So I think that's the true gift.

I rejoice with your Christmas gifts. I'm not recovering as quickly as I had hoped but I am making gains. I'm hoping by early to mid-Spring I will be back to making PRs in most of my lifts. Those unplanned gains are very exciting.

Thanks, gentlemen. The gifts are exciting, for sure, as they show that we are on the right track.

Somehow I had missed that one, Fred. Thanks for sharing!

I was smack-dab in the middle of the crossover era, when punk and thrash metal melded. CoC was one of those early bands that caught my ear. After decades of lugging the vinyl around the world a few times, I finally picked up another turntable during the lock-down era. CoC's Animosity was one of the first that I played. The bride wasn't as pleased as I.

And to cover Lynyrd Skynryd? Perfect!

Will do, Fred. A quick check has it quite grungy, typical of the era.
