Music — Top picks from SiriusXM Liquid Metal's Corridor of Covers, Old School 1980s Slayer Rager, 6/2/22 — Necrophobic vs Slayer, Die By The Sword; Monstrosity vs Slayer, Angel Of Death; Pro-Pain vs Slayer, South of Heaven.

Notes — After a poor night of sleep and a day of zero motivation, exactly the issue that Sully addressed in his latest video, I ran out of time and had to decide on priorities.
    - SQ - Programmed Medium Day. None.
    - BP - Programmed Volume Day. None.
    - RP - Programmed same as 5/15. The 385x5 (strapped) went just fine. While unloading the bar, I decided to throw in a 315x5 (82%) backoff set (hook grip) since this was the only thing that I'd be doing today and it will be a while before I get to it again. Yes, a deviation from the program, but I'll have plenty of time to recover from it. All good.

Music — Nope, although I had the "Preparing for 21 Days Around Everest" SS Podcast #18 playing in the office so I could listen between sets.

Notes — Another night of poor sleep, then a very compressed schedule today. But I insisted on getting under the bar for presses, a huge advantage of having a home gym. This wouldn't happen if I had to head to a gym.
    - OP - All good.
    - BP - Went into auto-pilot during the warmups with plates & quarters and went straight into 185 (87%), which I realized once I started lowering it. But I don't think that played into my work sets. Based on my log, I'm continuing my slide backwards due to lack of frequency over the past several months, as my last successful bench workout 210x3x5 on 5/9/22, followed by 211x(4+1)x3 on 5/15/22, then nothing until 5/29/22 (8 days ago), where I tried unsuccessfully for 212x5x3. My schedule for the remainder of the month won't improve on that, so I'll do what I can when I can as this maintenance season comes to a close.

Music — Top picks from SiriusXM Liquid Metal's Corridor of Covers, Chuck Schuldiner of Death Tribute, 6/9/22 — God of Thunder, Death vs KISS; Spirit Crusher, DeathOrchestra vs Death; Painkiller, Death vs Judas Priest.

Notes — Just returned from a cross country trip, a good trip, but exhausting in many respects. I did get some work in, putting my 160lb "nephew" on my shoulders and walking around, including climbing stairs. His Mom wasn't too pleased with that, but it's something that we've done since he was a wee lad. She's worried about me getting hurt, but I explained that that is why I lift. Plus, 160lbs is a light warmup weight. Nephew is in quotations because they're framily, not blood relatives, but we're much closer to them than blood relatives.
    - SQ - Light Day, heavy enough to kick in the DOMS in time for Sunday's Heavy Day. And it will, as I could feel those hamstrings working during the last set. All good.
    - BP - Slight reset (2lbs) to get my bench back on track, although this was an optimistic reset to see where I was. They weren't the best looking sets, but they were getting done. Even the third set, #4 went better than the two previous #4's, but #5 still stuck a few inches off the chest for a long, long, long push. It's a +1 because I reracked the bar (which was my recovery), got under it and pressed it out. None of this was a surprise, as I haven't had the frequency to keep these moving upward or even keeping stable. Next attempt will be another reset to complete a proper 3x5.
    - RP - It has been 12 days since my last heavy pull (385x5 on 6/5/22), or any pull for that matter, and this 390x5 equals my maintenance season peak, last seen on 2/11/22. The lack of pulling was evident by reps #4 and #5, but they got done.

Music — Top picks from SiriusXM Liquid Metal's Corridor of Covers, Blizzard of Solo Ozzy Covers, 6/16/22 — Coal Chamber (ft Ozzy) vs Peter Gabriel, Shock The Monkey. Overall, the after show was more what I needed during this workout — Gojira, Silvera; Slipknot, Nero Forte.

Notes — Some DOMS from Friday's session (first in 12 days). A later workout than usual, since we spend mid-day having lunch and beers with a friend. A nap followed.
    - SQ - Just wasn't feeling it through the warmups, and that continued through the first set. And the second. And the third. But they all got done. I may have just even gone a bit too deep on a few of them to make sure that I wasn't cheating myself.
    - OP - Last Press was 6/6/22, with 136x5x2. Dropped 1lb and went 3x5. First set went strong; the second set my mind was wandering (I didn't step far enough back and #3 hit the right-hand cup) and #5 stalled above the head, but I was able to grind it out to lockout; and the third set went fine, although I started taking breaths at the top on #2 and using the bounce off the bottom to keep things moving.
    - PC - Beard issues during warmup racks, with it being pinned between the bar and my chest, so I had to grab a hair tie from my bride. Normally I don't have it this late in the season, so it's usually not this long. But with the long lingering spring and heavy snowpack still in the mountains, it's going to be mosquito hell next week when I'm up clearing a trail. So the beard stays for a little while longer. The tie worked great but the reps were ugly, since my last clean workout was 6/2/22 at this same weight. Finished, but certainly not "all good." I'll need to reset and recover form on this lift.

Music — Top picks from SiriusXM Liquid Metal's Bloody Roots, Roots of Bolt Thrower Worship, 6/11/22 — Bolt Thrower, Cenotaph; Misery Index vs Bolt Thrower, When Glory Beckons; Chainsword vs Bolt Thrower, Ost Front 1943 Stalingrad; then the aftershow immediately kicked off with Suicidal Tendencies' Send Me Your Money, which immediately flashed me back to mud-covered me being on stage with them at a small rock festival in Sankt Wendel, Germany many years ago.

Notes — Tapering down a bit, as the rest of this week will be a fairly intense backcountry trail crew hitch for which I haven't done any conditioning prep work.
    - SQ - Originally programmed as a Medium Day 275x5x3, I dropped a set to lower the volume while keeping the Intensity high (95%), and I sure felt Sunday's Heavy Day through the hips. All good.
    - OP - Intensity singles. All good.
    - BP - Intensity singles. All good.
    - Chins - Nothing to shout about. Getting back into the groove of these, which I'll do weekly this summer/fall.

Music — Top picks from SiriusXM 1st Wave's Lust for Lists, Martin Fry [ABC], 6/18/22 — Duran Duran, Is There Something I Should Know?; The Buzzcocks, What Do I Get?; David Bowie, Let's Dance (mainly for Nile Rodgers brilliant production touches); M/A/R/R/S, Pump Up The Volume; ABC, How To Be A Millionaire.

Notes — It has been a week, but not a lazy week. Thursday-Sunday was a backcountry trail crew, with days at elevation (5,000'-6,000') averaging about 8 miles/day on trails averaging 11% (often quite steeper with long fall line stretches), where my lack of conditioning reared its head. We cleared about 200 trees until we were stopped by the snow line. So even though I was slower getting to the next group of trees, at the end of the day, the strength work was evident as I'd still be able to lift and move large logs by myself while the faster folks were gassed. I did have a pressing day scheduled yesterday, but I just didn't have the energy nor time before heading in to cover an afternoon/evening shift. So while I'm still in my maintenance season, which comes to an end soon, I'm starting to transition to 4-day Heavy/Light Split programming which I'll run the rest of the year.
    - SQ - Same as last week, 6/19/22. I wasn't sure how these would go, considering the long fall line stretches of trail that I'd have to climb/descend with loaded pack (~30lbs on Fri/Sat work days, ~60lbs in/out). But they were scheduled, so how I felt didn't matter. All good, even as the fifth rep of each set went slow, but none a grind.
    - Chins - Felt great!

Notes — I am liking this 4-day split so far, with workouts back down to a very reasonable hour or so, even with the resets and goofing off between sets.
    - OP - Same as 6/19/22, with the last intensity presses (143x1x5 on 6/21/22). The lack of frequency and no reset reared its head, with an almost complete stall overhead on the last rep of the first set. And the second set. But not the third set, as I apparently got the groove back. All good.
    - BP - A -5lb reset since 6/17/22, since that was the fourth "volume" workout in a row where 3x5's were not happening for 211lbs & 212lbs. This should have been manageable. First set, last rep I misgrooved, knowing as soon as it touched too low on my rib cage that I was out of the groove and no amount of pushing and moving it towards my head and back into the groove would get it to lockout; a quick rerack got that set done. But then the second set, where I was in the groove at every chest touch, but that last rep just wasn't going to go. Same with set three, even with perfect chest touch placement for all five reps, there just wasn't the drive to get but a few inches off the chest. Good thing that the maintenance season is coming to an end and I can get back to more frequency to get these moving in the right direction again.

    Notes
    - SQ - Intensity Day, and the first time that I've had 300+ on the bar since mid-March (300x5 on 3/12; with a maintenance season peak of 320x5 + 300x5x2 on 1/29) as I've been purposefully keeping my squats on the lighter side to let my pulls go up, no matter how inconsistent I have been. So let's call it an experiment, as my theoretical 1RM based on Tuesday's 290x5's is 326lbs. I even did a walkout with the 315 after loading it just to get a feel/remember. But that was much ado about nothing, as all five felt smooth and solid, even if #3 was a bit too deep.
    - RP - The first heavy pull in two weeks (390x5 on 6/17) and this would have been a x5 PR. I should have stuck with 390, but I've gone up to 10 days still adding 5lbs to the bar. So at 14 days this was an outlier, and an experiment. Two reps went slow but fine, then the third didn't even reach the knee. I reset, and as is usual in this situations, the bar wouldn't budge. So I pulled some small plates off the bar, ending up at 92% (365) and took a break for a few minutes. Those three went slow but fine. Like the other lifts, I haven't been consistent. Although with regular Heavy/Light Split programming, I would have done a light squat session prior to this heavy pull. So plenty of factors that made this red, but a bit of learning took place.
