Music — Abbath vs Metallica, Trapped Under Ice; Vreld vs Rolling Stones, Paint It Black; Junkowl vs Amy Winehouse, Back to Black; Oceans of Slumber vs The Animals, House of the Rising Sun.

Notes — Although it's nowhere near as hot as some of you are dealing with (70°F/49% RH outside), with the Heavy DL being first, this still ends up being a 2-shirt workout. The first shirt ends up too wet and salty, so the warmup SQ reps get progressively more painful on the bar across the back. No sense in tearing things up. Plus, the dry shirt is refreshing.
    - DL - Heavy Singles. The first time that I've been in this territory in, well, ever. -Ish. This was my Powerlifting Meet PR back in September 2019, then Covid. I did build back up to a single at this weight on 12/31/20, then had quite a bit of struggles with it through 2021—being the poster child for Artificially Weak Deadlifts and inconsistency—eventually getting to 345x5 on 12/8/21 before my 380x1 PR on 12/17/21. Maintenance season saw Rack Pulls at 390x5 on 2/11/22 and 6/17/22, then 395x2 + 365x3 on 7/1/22 (just 3 weeks ago). So even thought it has been awhile since I've pulled this off the floor, I feel well-poised to pull these two singles. And I did. Slow & steady, the second a touch more shaky than the first (perhaps a minute or two more rest), but both cruised to lockout without any concerns of sticking anywhere. They have been added to my new Set x Rep Maxes tracker.
    - SQ - Light Day. Although the hips and hamstrings thought otherwise after those heavy pulls. Manageable. All good.

That is so true. Unlike yesterday's bench singles, where my mind was all over the place, it was nice to regain tight focus and get these done.

My prayers are with you and your wife at this time. Suffering is the most common element of humankind. To share it brings some comfort.

Thank you, carson. We happen to be at that prime age where we're losing our parents, our friends parents, and occasionally our friends (although those will become more frequent). We know that it's a part of this life, and we're thankful to have it. Suffering included.

Music — 40th Anniversary of Judas Priest's Screaming For Vengeance — Judas Priest, Screaming For Vengeance (Live, US Festival '82); Iron Savior vs Judas Priest, The Hellion/Electric Eye; Saxon vs Judas Priest, You've Got Another Thing Comin'.

    Notes — Cycle 2, Week 1 of Heavy/Light 4-Day Split (BBRx pp 265-6).
    - OP - Experimentation here. I'm adding 5lbs to the presses this cycle to see how volume recovery has been through the previous cycle. I do know that I won't be able to maintain +5lb jumps each cycle for too long, even if I do manage these. And this is close to PR territory for #x5's, with a 142.5x5x3 over a year ago (6/1/21). All good! I wish that I had got these sets on video. I kept focus (which is a problem for me) and these were tempo sets, with just a quick breath at the bottom and right into the next one. By set 3, reps 4 & 5 were slowing, but manageable, yet it got me to thinking about a double layback for the fourth set. I didn't need it, although that very last rep was a shaky mess from the ground up pressing to lockout. Now I have 3 weeks to think about the next cycle — going +5lbs for sets across; going +5lbs with backoff sets; or quit being greedy and going +2.5lbs for sets across. I suspect that I'll go +5lb sets across, because you never know until you try.
    - BP - Light Day. Nothing of note here, just three solid sets. As they should be.
