    I was recently diagnosed with malabsorption after dealing with significant digestion issues since late August. Having an impaired ability to absorb nutrients impacted my NLP, which I decided to end last week. My NLP numbers are (in lbs):

    Squat: 150 -> 265 (5x3)
    Bench: 130 -> 185 (5x3)
    Deadlift: 175 -> 295 (5x1)
    Press: 85 -> 125 (5x3)
    Clean: 65 -> 140 (3x5)

    I'm 47, 5'11", 174 lbs. I started my NLP at 161 lbs and got up to 177 lbs before the malabsorption began to kick-in in earnest.

    I have a couple of appointments in December to hopefully determine the root cause of my issue and develop a corrective action plan. In the meantime, and in an effort to keep on training, I've decided to run the Greysteel Texas Method program as outlined in BBRx. This program offers more recovery time between workouts, and I plan on making minimal weight increases. My first intensity day will be about 90-95% of my NLP final numbers.

    Today was day 1.

    Day 1 of GTM - Monday, November 22, 2021 (Volume)

    Squat: 225x5x4; 3 minute rest
    Bench: 155x5x4; 2 minute rest
    Cleans: 135x3x5; 2 minute rest

    Right on, Ryan. Way to switch gears to accommodate this issue.

    Keep at it!

    ETA: BTW, consider providing a link to your NLP log. That way folks who come along later can jump back to your beginnings and glean useful information, just like you have from these boards.

    You're several weeks into this programming now, Ryan. How is it working for you overall?

    starting strength coach development program
    Hi Bill, thanks for dropping by. The GTM programming is working well for me, and I think I probably would have eventually transitioned to this programming even if I hadn't started experiencing my malabsorption issues. I enjoy strength training, but I also enjoy surfing, playing soccer with my son, playing freeze-tag with my daughter and a number of other activities. While I was still more than capable of doing these activities during my NLP, I definitely experienced a loss in extended cardiovascular endurance. Having my Wednesdays freed up allows me to get in some HIIT or Tabata style workouts to build the cardio back up.

    I had my first meeting with the gastroenterologist last week and wouldn't you know, my symptoms had all but cleared up. After explaining what had happened and what I had experienced, he believes I had a bout of post-infectious IBS that I have been able to clear up by cleaning up my diet, cutting out alcohol, and consuming fermented foods and probiotics. He wants to perform a few more tests to see if the malabsorption is still present, and I'm scheduled for both a colonoscopy and an endoscopy in late January. So stoked for that (exaggerated eyeroll...)

    Looks like your training continues to move along nicely!
