    Workout # 56

    BW: 236

    Squat

    - 157.5 x5
    - 197.5 x5
    - 235 x5
    - 275 x5
    - 315 x5

    Press

    - 135 x5x2

    - 135 x4 <— Fail
    - 135 x1

Last time I failed right above my head on the last rep. This time on the last rep, I locked out my right elbow but couldn’t lock out my left elbow. I pushed on it for a while and just couldn’t get it to move. I said a dirty word and waited a couple of minutes and got my 15th rep.

    Bent Row

    - 135 x5
    - 157.5 x5
    - 190 x5
    - 220 x5
    - 252.5 x5

I also happen to be a male, 61, 6' and probably within a few pounds of 240 as well. Good stuff.

    Default Starting Strength Memphis

Okay, I have been needing to get caught up on my log.

I went to Starting Strength Memphis and got some very good coaching on Saturday, 15 February 2025.

If you have ever wondered whether going to a Starting Strength Gym and getting some in person coaching was worth it, I definitely believe that it is.

Scott Acosta, SSC is an outstanding coach. He offered me great tips and cues on all four main lifts. I wrote them all down. He explained exactly what he meant between sets. He videoed my squats to show me something specific.

We talked about that I was trying to find the right balance between volume and intensity and about my recent training and injury history. Scott made some solid and specific recommendations on my programming at this stage of straddling novice and intermediate. You’ll see me incorporating his suggestions into my program.

The next time that I go up that way to visit my daughter, I will definitely book a follow up session with Scott at Starting Strength Memphis.

The workout at Starting Strength Memphis actually felt more like a meet in a way. It really was an evaluation in a way, since that is what I requested. So, the format of the workout was different than my normal program.

I had medical appointments this week. Because of that I was only able to get two workouts in. I went Heavy/Light.

Nice job on the squats, getting up there!

    starting strength coach development program
Fighting the Reaper reminds me of Sully's oft' repeated comment, "One can choose either to live a full life and die suddenly or one can choose to die for many years before finally collapsing."
