Just an update for those that might find themselves in a similar situation. My surgeon specified no lifting until eight weeks post-op, and then only for sets of 15 or more. Per Rip's advice, given that it intersected with my own experiences, I resumed training both bench and press with the empty bar, adding 5 and 10 pounds to the bar each session, respectively. I decided to start deadlifts at 135, and squats at 225, only because of the lost flexibility and pain of scapular compression. I'm now nearly 13 weeks out from the accident, and my lifts will hit their former numbers next week. Only tightness in the shoulder remains, and I believe that will pass over the coming months.

    Thanks as always, Rip.

so if I'm reading these 2 threads correctly,
you waited the 8 weeks your surgeon requested?
or did you jumpstart your recovery a bit?

It looks like he started training with the empty bar for bench / press, and reduced loads on the DL / Squat at about 4-5 weeks post-op.
