I would consider myself an advanced trainee. 5'8" 192, 485 squat, 330 bench, 575 deadlift. I was doing 3x8 squat on Wednesday with 365. On the second set I felt a strain on the 5th rep and I knew I should have stopped, but instead, I did the next rep and had a horrific pop in my groin area and the pain was unbearable. I went to a walk-in ortho clinic and the doc said he was 99% sure that I had a ruptured adductor tendon. He said that 98% of the time this injury does not need to be surgically repaired and he insisted I start PT today. My appointment is later today. The pain today is significantly less than it was Wed and Thur...my question is this...should I be doing the Starr Rehab Protocol? Should I start squatting right away?

Unfortunately, ruptured adductor tendons are part of the cost of doing business in high end athletics. It is most likely that the ruptured tendon is the adductor longus, and, it is one that you can do without.

I personally do not like the Starr Method for something like this. I prefer to give people repeated, short sets instead of the Starr Method’s giant sets. I like repeated doubles that increase in weight each training session as pain and ability to move correctly improves.

I’ve done something to an adductor doing 480 squats. Felt it rip. It must have torn right near the pelvic bone insertion as my meat and veg and the region above turned a bruised purple the following day. I took some advice on here and 4 days after the injury I started squatting. I’ve done 8 days of squatting so far:

    Weights in kgs (sorry)
    1. 20x15, 22.5x15, 25x15
    2. 20x15, 22.5x15, 27.5x15
    3. 20x15, 25x15, 30x15
    4. 25x15, 30x15, 35x15
    5. 30x15, 35x15, 40x12
    6. 35x15, 42.5x12, 50x12
    7. 40x12, 50x12, 60x12
    8. 40x12, 55x12, 70x10

So I’m up to 154 pounds, so I can see getting back to per injury weights won’t take too long.
