Why did you decide that a 32-pound PR was a good idea?
Hi Coach
I tweaked my lower back going for a DL 1rpm @452lbs. 1st attempt couldn't get it off the ground, 10mins later 2nd attempt just kept pulling and locked it out. Felt sore afterward and overnight everytime i moved position in bed it would ping me. For rehab should i just take ibuprofen and get back on the horse and work back up. Maybe at 56 i shouldnt be doing these max pull attempts, my last 1x5 was 420.
Why did you decide that a 32-pound PR was a good idea?
I have been testing my 1 rpm on a sporadic basis, ie last mth was 445 no issue, couple mths before that 440.
My warmup for the 452 was, 5@135, 5@225, 5@315, 3@370, 2@415
but i think i see what you are saying, if i am to test a 1 rpm, it should really be closer to my 1x5 weight at the time ? and my way is asking for injury ?
If you want to test your 1RM, fine, but that's not training, and it's possible to get hurt at limit weights. Save those for a meet.
Got it, thanks Rip, so would you call the tweak inflamation or a muscle strain, its already feeling better 48hrs later.
I call it a "tweak" since muscle strain and inflammation do not adequately describe it. Have I not got an article about this somewhere?
