    Post Isometrics as assistance exercises

    Hi Rip, I was just wondering if you thought isometric exercises (e.g pushing overhead against a door frame) would be effective as assistance exercises for the starting strength program and also what your general thoughts on isometrics are.

    It's what the power rack was developed for, and there are isometric programs available elsewhere. But obviously they don't apply to a novice.

    I am intrigued to hear more about the isometric exercises the power rack was designed for.

    Do you you mean things like heavy walkouts & trying to rack pull something far beyond your ability.. stuff like that?

    And presses and bench presses into the pins, as well as pulls and squats.
