Time to add Power Cleans? SS Week 2...
Hi Mark,
After completing my first week of the "rank novice" program from PP 2nd edition, I am unsure if I should move to the next progression in the novice sequence and add power cleans, or if I should stick with working on the deadlift for one more week. The PP book is somewhat unclear - first it says do the rank novice program for the first few workouts (Workout A: squat/press/deadlift, Workout B: squat/bench/deadlift), but then says to do it for the first couple of weeks, until the "freshness" of the deadlift has worn off and it is well ahead of the squat. Mine is 20 lbs ahead (squat up from 65 to 75, deadlift up from 85 to 95 after week 1; fyi I am a 120 lb female), so should I add in the cleans this week?
Thanks!
~Amanda

Do you have the equipment to do them, i.e. lighter-than-10k training plates?

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your response. I have 2 homemade plywood technique "plates" for spacing the distance off the ground w/out adding much weight (~ 5 lbs). I don't mind sticking w/deadlifts to get them heavier if that's the best route, just wanted your opinion, thanks! Here are my stats that might help you:
Sex: Female
Age: 30
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 120 lbs
Starting & ending weights per lift thus far (after 1 week):
Squat: 65 -->75 lbs
Deadlift: 85-->95
Press: 38-->40.5
Bench: 55-->have only done once

There is no reason to wait. Just make sure they're light enough to do correctly, find your limit at absolutely correct form, and go on up from there.
