Bearing shops are a specialty service. Find a bearing shop, and they will either have the bushing or can order it.

does anyone have a source for replacement bushings?
i tried york, got told "you're on your own" for old bars like this one.
looking around at hardware stores and websites, i only see too big and too small. nobody seems to have something for 29mm shaft diameter.

Rip, another question: how good are these bars? The local high school has at least three and the coaching staff know nothing of strength training much less quality (and possibly historic?) barbells. What might a bar like that be worth if I tried to talk them out of a couple? I will first just ask if they want to get rid of those old, rusty bars gathering dust in the corner of the weightroom.

There are so many of them around that they are not worth much money. But if they are still straight, i.e. haven't been dropped loaded over a bench, they are damn good bars. When the bushings are oiled they spin as well as a bearing bar. Check for straight and offer them $30, and go up to $100 if you have to.

Not sure what type of bearing you need but they have just about every kind.
