    Are those type of dumbbells more or less expensive than rubber coated dumbbells you find in most gyms?

    Much cheaper, much more useful.

    I really appreciate the opportunity to learn things I otherwise wouldn't be able to or even think to ask. So thanks for taking the time to share these bits of your experience and expertise with us.

    But most of all I especially liked the curl monkey.

    Very informative, but I disagree about the utility of heavy dumbbells. They're admittedly only useful for DB rows (Kroc rows?) unless you're ungodly strong, but very useful for those. My old gym had 70kg bells (154 lbs) and I worked up to 3 sets of 20 and stopped there. I would have loved to go up to maybe 85x5 or something. I've never found a rowing type exercise as good.
