    It's the mechanics. If it was muscle mass, the whole belly would be tight but proportionately outgunned.

    I'll be the first to admit that my knowledge on muscle mechanics is limited because of my lack of effort. However, I can attest to the use of biceps in both pushups and bench.

    When my tendonitis flares up, I lose 5-15lbs on my bench. Rather frustrating too because I can never plan for it.

    From you interview with Dan John and some other audio stuff, it sounded like you had some respect for Pavel Tsatsouline. I know that he goes on quite a lot about the hip flexors pulling oneself down into the hole of a squat in his books.

    And that may be a useful cue for kettlebell work. But it does not apply to a 405 squat.
