    Rip:

My girlfriend has had 4 surgeries over the years to try and relieve considerable pain from compartment syndrome in both legs. It has helped some but she still struggles with it.

Do you know of any alternatives for treating this kind of problem?

Myofascial release as a non-invasive massage therapy has worked for most people.

Somewhat related, I have exertional compartment syndrome in my forearms (when I race motocross after a long layoff). I've had massages and they help quite a bit. I'm thinking of getting the surgery, although the success rate is low (scar tissue grows where they open the compartments) and is delaying me scheduling it. Either way after a few weeks of gradually increasing the pace of my riding (both in speed and duration) I am mostly rid of it. It's pretty common amongst motocrossers and some rowers. Just my 0.02.
