I've been on their website all day (The Mercatus Center), and they have a lot of good stuff. Their study is rather comprehensive (and I've gone through the PDF) but I think I would rank firearms ownership a little higher than they do as it relates to personal freedoms.

Funny, I thought I was doing pretty well living in Virginia though I've been looking 100 miles south down I81 into Tennessee a lot more often these days for greener pastures.

IIRC, During William Ruger's interview on the Peter Schiff show he indicated that having right-to-work laws would increase a state's freedom index. I haven't paid much attention to his index since you can't index something you don't understand.
