Yeah, but Tom, this is just one guy, man.
We did some 1RM testing with our guys this morning. One of our top lifters was going for a big weight his eyes came up and he lost his hip drive. Sure enough, he missed it:

After this miss, we talked with him and told him to be sure to keep his eyes down and stay in his hips. This was the result:

Eyes down works. It also helps to be a 6'1'', 245lb Division I linebacker, but I digress.

Or maybe he got it because it was higher and Rip conveniently fails to see it.
Yes, quad, that's probably what it is.
....there both pretty close to my eye.
Camera from different spots in each rep, so hard to tell.
None of that matters though.
2nd attempt looked so much faster than first ("easier"....using term loosely here).
AND that was AFTER the failed first attempt, which was a shakey ass grinder rep.
...that would HAVE to take some physical and mental mojo outta ya...no matter how much rest between attempts, that first one must have messed with him to some degree.
Yet he nailed the second one...and smooth
Maybe he drank some coffee before the second attempt

Number 1 i'm a shitty cameraman, but you are exactly right. The two things we talked to him about in between attempts were eyes down (this is something we are always talking to him about) and that he was "timid" coming out of the hole with that 1st rep. That he needed to hit bottom and move the fucking bar with some speed and aggression. And Tom and I both agree that it was a ballsy/gutsy thing to do, to come back and smoke it like he did after that first attempt. Pretty damn impressive in my book. It's not like that is something these guys have much experience with. But he is a tough SOB, physical and mentally.
Waiting to see quads squat video
