I'm watching Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon on Netflix. It's damned beautiful to look at. Snyder has remade his entire esthetic on film because it looks nothing like any of his previous works. There are shades of Del Toro and Jackson everywhere.

Incendies is one of those movies that you get to the end of and think, 'what the hell did i just watch?' and spend the rest of your day thinking about it.

Mostly in French, directed by Denis Villeneuve - glad I watched it.

Finally saw Romulus. Because I do not do theaters. I want to enjoy a movie, not listen to everyone's burps and cell phones and I for sure want a beer.

Ok, the atmosphere and look of the movie is fantastic. But it just felt a touch half - assed. Or maybe it was fear. Like maybe going out on the limb that was Prometheus and Covenant scared them and they went back to the formula. Idk. Maybe I was expecting too much. I mean, even a lesser Alien movie is still a good movie but it's probably my least favorite of the franchise.

Land of Bad was good. But I think 13 Hours remains my current war favorite. Land of Bad was more thriller, lots of tension.

I rewatched Patriot recently because apparently life has not presented me with enough existential crisis so I had to go and dredge some up. It's a damn fine movie though.

My neighbors got the nice audio and video set up (and 2 dogs I adore) so when they invited I went. It was streaming on Amazon but we're such weirdos for this stuff we'll rewatch it when the 4k dvd comes in December. I'm hoping it will be a longer cut too. I've bout gotten to where I don't watch a Snyder movie till his cut comes out.

Did you watch his unrated cut of Rebel Moon yet? I've only watched part one so far. Absolutely wild.

Not yet but it's next on the list. I've heard it's almost a different movie. Why do they do this to film makers? Just let the men cook and it is what it is, length, rating, whatever. Studios always trying to mess with the vision.

A good example of this is Kingdom of Heaven. Scott's director's Cut is almost a different film.

Idea for the next Rip and Musser Movie podcast: Studio interference, and whether on the whole, it helps or hinders movies.

Obviously everyone knows the movies that the Directors Cut are far better. But what about the movie's that were improved upon editing? Harder to find because the directors cut is rarely released if it's worse, but a few definitely come to mind where the final release is better than the initial shoots. Alien, Toy Story and American History X come to mind.

It's hard to estimate if the final tally is positive or negative for studio interference but it's definitely not one all one way traffic.
