Spider-Man as a character is the trap bar of super heroes ie. popular but shit. Only 3 super hero movies in the history of cinema are worthy of calling themselves thus: 1) Batman with Nicholson’s Joker 2) Batman Begins 3) Captain America Winter Soldier

All others are either too CGI’d, have shitty plot lines, underwhelming casting / performances or generally too “nice”.

I don’t care if the Emperor has no Clothes, don’t bother going to see the latest James Bond. Daniel Craig’s James Bond is simply not James Bond. Daniel Craig is an excellent Jason Bourne, but he’s not, isn’t and never will be James Bond. The current franchise is so far removed from Fleming’s novels that it warranted being discontinued after Roger Moore bowed out. Casino Royale is one of the best action movies ever made (to Craig’s credit) - but still not James Bond. In true Popper fashion, the fact that the franchise had James Bond CRYING when M died and having him fail his MI6 aptitude test in Skyfall tells us everything we need to know ie. James Bond has not been James Bond for many years. They should discontinue the franchise, but money disallows it, they prefer to still rake it in believing diehard James Bond fans will enjoy seeing his character deconstructed for the sake of realism and profundity - which is not why we go to see James Bond!!

And yes I’m fully aware Matt Damon played Jason Bourne, I make the reference because Daniel Craig’s Bond would be a great Jason Bourne. But he’s not James Bond.

Big red, have you watched batman 89 lately? It does NOT hold up, for a variety of reasons. And this was my #2 favorite movie for years. The interpretation of Bruce Wayne is, uh, terrible. Not keatons fault, as I think he's pretty good in it.

Begins is the best, I agree with you on that. Winter soldier is very very good too.

I’ll watch it again tomorrow evening. I’m very confident it will hold up.

No time to die is the worst James Bond movie I've ever seen. Danial Craig didn't even play Bond, just some angry guy with a gun. I guess years ago when he said he was done playing Bond, he meant it.

    - Prince songs forced into the movie, terribly out of place.
    - Bruce Wayne being a recluse, shut in, and not recognized by a Time reporter. This is an almost unforgivable sin here
    - Rewriting Bruce's past so that the Joker actually killed his parents. Lame.
    - Tim burtons shitty directing and even worse visual style.

(you didn't say this, but...) in no world is B89 better than any of the Nolan batman movies. B89 is great because of what it did... Brought superheros back to mainstream movies and made batman the serious character he should be, and may be the best version of the Joker. (in many ways Jack's better than Heath).

    But Burtons version sucks today.

Went and saw Dune in the cinema instead of getting it at home.

One of the rare movies that I will see more than once in cinemas. Last time I did this was for Joker. I will not look forward to the day that it's not available in cinemas. It's so good I immediately went home and looked up the book series and almost dropped $150 on the whole thing.

If you haven't seen it, everyone you know likes it and it selling you to see it. I didn't know hollywood could still make movies like that.

Watched 12 Strong the other night. It may be because I'm a sucker for modern movies depicting special ops missions, but I loved it. The movie follows a group of 12 Army Green Berets as they link up with an Uzbek general to try and take Masar I Sharif from the Taliban just after 9/11. The movie adds quite a bit of melodrama, but the plot follows along mostly with what really happened. Strong performances by Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, and Michael Pena.

Interesting aside: I used to work with a guy who was in 5th Group, and had he not retired a year before 9/11, he could have been one of the dudes on that mission. Crazy to think about.

Batman '89 is a superior Batman film, even with its deviations from canon, to the Christopher Nolan "Batman" films. Easily.
