That was really cool. Thanks to Colin for writing it and thanks to you and your crew for sharing it.

quotes and reflections are my favorites as well....I go back and re-read them every once in awhile for motivation and a reality check whenever I think of doing something dumb.

“If you want a simple strength and conditioning program, stick to the basics. Run your 400s and 800s, and do lots of power cleans and presses and long heavy sets of squats.”

My favorite has always been The Truth by Jim Steel. Love that article.

Great article, on par with Marty Gallagher's iron giants. Keept this stuff coming, Rip.

Mike Webster sounds like a beast of a man with an even more powerful mind. His will to train is mind boggling.

Two things stand out: his use of volume and the relationship between conditioning and strength. He sure liked his 5x8's and 20+ rep sets. His use of sprints, mid distance (400-800) yards and sled work in combination with strength work is interesting. One cannot negate conditioning is desirable, along with the strength to go with it. Top athletes in contact sports and strength events have them. His use of overhead work is apparent.

That he did this all by himself and not with a 5000 sq ft gym full of coaches driving Mercedes is a testament of his clarity and knowledge. Bummer he never got it on with that book.

He squatted low bar and used York equipment during the heyday of Nautilus. Seems like he knew what he was doing.
