5x5 method- was this the gold standard?
I have a question about ramped 5x5 programs, like Bill Starr used, especially the one that's become associated with `Madcow' - do you think a ramped 5x5 is as effective as sets across (you seem to prefer sets across in PP)? The program has you do a heavy triple on fridays which becomes the last ramped set of 5 on Monday. Do you think that's a weakness in the program, the idea that someone needs to set a 5RM only two days after setting a 3RM, and do this for several weeks in a row?
Also, is a ramped 5x5 program easier for older lifters that might not handle volume as well as younger folks?

I like the sets across better, for the reason you cite. But there are lots of ways to do this training thing. Both obviously work, I just thing sets across works better.
