I propose a "women of starting strength calendar" with all proceeds going to flood the streets with low-grade meth.
Interesting that you have a narrowcasting strategy, yet your biggest sales boost was a NY Times op-ed.
Dan Duane gives us some ink in the New York Times
As you write, "It would be cool if we could figure out how to do this kind of promotion for ourselves." Was not being able to figure it out the genesis of your narrowcasting?
From what I've read, the narrowcasting is due to most people not being receptive of what they're selling. Look at the comments on Facebook/YouTube/PJmedia. Tons of people who willingly read the articles or watch the videos, just to turn around and spout their own, personal and uneducated, differing opinion.
I'm thinking he was talking about book sales specifically, and I'm positive the number of people who have read, digested, implemented, and understood the content out of those who were influenced by the NYT article can be thoroughly described as having been "narrowcasted".
Most people, I think, would describe "narrowcasting" as specifically advertising or promoting a product to a certain subset of the population. That's not the practice done by the SS group, as the program is specifically made to help anyone and everyone get stronger. The narrowcasting itself happens when the time comes to understand and apply the program. Only those who have the intelligence/time/ability/desire will be attracted to and implement such a boring and hard program. The contents of the book and the inherent nature of the program limit its ability to appeal to the greater population. This is, I believe, the genesis of the narrowcasting.
OK, so this actually happened to me once. I was actually in the position of explaining to a lifter that he probably shouldn't be using meth (it was a patient who had overdosed and was a gym rat.)
I think that if you are having to tell someone that meth hurts your gains, then you're probably speaking to the wrong audience.
Just to prove the point, when he was ready to discharge, the cops were waiting outside his room to escort him to jail. But who knows? Maybe the small kernel of Starting Strength wisdom I planted would blossom at the jailhouse gym? How many convicts are doing the program? Can they do GOMAD in jail?
