My apologies if this has already been addressed. I searched the site and checked the index of TBP but didn't find any relevant information.

My mother (74) has recently started training. She apprised her doctor of this, who cautioned her to stop on the grounds that she has vasculitis. She has some autoimmune-ish issues that haven't been confidently diagnosed by any doctor, in spite of trips to specialists.

Mom isn't the sort to blindly listen to doctors, and she's inclined to continue with her trainer. Just thought I'd check here, though: Is there something I'm missing here or is this just uninformed doctor paranoia? She is more concerned (as am I) about lacking physical strength.

"Vasculitis" is a pretty broad term. It's an -"itis"of the "vasculos", which means it's an inflammation of blood vessels. And it comes in a bunch of flavors. And we don't know which if any flavor your Mom has. And her doctor is almost certainly talking out his over-educated, medically conservative, ossified asshole.

I thought it best that a doctor told you this.

Not to be weird, but your posts are among my favourites to read, Coach Sullivan.
