Good article. Except for Mr. Steel's sidenote on The Road (2006), which is a terrible novel. Reads like a sloppy screenplay. Probably a good movie, but I haven't seen it.

Thoroughly enjoyed the article. A bit of background I'm a 53 male European, Irish to be exact. So maybe don't necessarily agree with some of the world view stated here.
Do agree that the training philosophy mirrors a wide range of society in that it has gone soft. Brought up on the maxim of what you put in you get out and always finish strong. As an aside I heard on the BBC recently Millenials are forecast to be the most overweight and obese group compared to previous generations. I'm afraid we have spoilt them. In the long run we haven't done them or society in general any favours.
